Amazon selling Verizon phones for just $0.01 until Monday

If you have been itching to buy a new and powerful smartphone, the next few days could see you make that leap. Amazon's wireless division has a huge sale on nearly all wireless phones offered by Verizon Wireless. So what is Amazon's price to get any of these phones? It's just one cent until the sale ends on October 17. The two big exceptions are the iPhone 4 and the upcoming iPhone 4S.

This sale also doesn't include devices such as tablets, USB laptop wireless products or WiFi hotspot devices. Other than that, you can get recently released smartphones such as the Droid Bionic, which normally sells for $299.99 with a two year contract, for one cent. You can also get a number of phones that would normally sell for $199.99 with a two year contract for this ultra-low price, such as the Blackberry Torch, the HTC Rhyme, the Droid Charge and the LG Revolution.

This sale is limited to adding new lines with a two year contract so it looks like if you already own a Verizon phone and want to upgrade your existing phone line, you are out of luck. On the other hand, Amazon does give buyers a free two day shipping offer with their phone orders. This sale is obviously a way to take some of the thunder away from the launch of the iPhone 4S, even though that phone will be put on sale via Verizon as well starting on Friday. But if you wanted to check out this whole LTE 4G network that Verizon has been promoting for the past year this may be the cheapest way to access that network.

omg.. i just opened a brand new individual account 4 days ago and got my free phone from radio shack online just today.. I wanted to get the bionic for 1 cent but how would i go by doing that, when i have just till monday? I tried to order it but they said i had to have a family acc.Can anyone tell me around that.. someone told me to add another line make it family and then order thru amazon and then cancle the 2nd line, but i hate to go thru all that. anyone know what else i can do?

I signed up for the Droid Bionic 4G but I don't think I'll get it as I owe Verizon a back bill for an activation fee and a partial month of service (more like a week of service).

I want the Bionic but its too much and this would really do good if they opened it up to current customers that have a contract up and are able to get a new phone one last time with a discount on their new every 2.

In England with many contracts you pay a monthly fee and receive the phone for "free". In America it seems that the monthly fee is only slightly cheaper yet you still have to pay for the phone. Quite strange really.

If Verizon was worth a crap anywhere other than within city limits of any place in West Michigan, it could be worth it! Otherwise, in my area, the phone isn't even worth a penny!

Really? Verizon is that bad where you live. That's a shame. In NYC, the service and 4G LTE speeds are amazing.

Any catch? Or just one penny per phone and shipping? Id buy a few for profit.

Profit? Each phone you get is automatically on a two year contract.

You have to sign a two year contract with Verizon and pay the typical data rate.

I think you have to add a line.

I still can't believe in the USA you have to pay for phones AND still be locked into a contract. I haven't paid money for a phone here in Australia for years.

$79/Month cap plan with $700 odd value in calls and text. Free phone.

Or $99/month in my case, free phone, unlimited calls, text, mms blah blah blah and 4GB data.

You know full well that the "$700 Value" is bull**** since they could be charging $7/minute. Work it all out in how many minutes that $700 equates to and everyone else will understand you. And you also know full well that it is not going to be a 'free' phone, they just give you less call-time for your dollars than what they 'could' do if they didn't incorporate handset costs.
Still, it aint bad.... especially if you can get some offers for older handsets. *Cough*. Omnia 7 on 12 month contract, no repayments *Cough*

You don't have to lock in to a contract. You can walk into any store and ask for an unsubsidized phone. You will pay full retail price, but you will have no contract.

I think what he was trying to say is that we get taken/screwed twice. First, we actually have to pay for the phone (in most contracts), and then we have the contract, which is another ripoff. He has the benefit of only getting ripped once.

It should also be pointed out that the typical unsubsidized phone is way overpriced. Sure you can get around this by buying someone's junk off ebay or getting out of your contract, but that's not really my point. Not until people realize that the iPhone really is not worth all that much from a manufacturing point of view (you can insert WinP7, BB and any android phone here to) will the prices come down.

If you just want the contract and don't want to pay for the phone, there are phone that are subsidized to be "free" on contract. The "latest and greatest" phone you typically have to shell out $100+ for (on contract).

Man I do want a new phone but I have no need to add a new line. 2 is enough but damn I do want the new bionic!!!
Add the new line, get the phone. Just cancel the agreement in 30 days. you still have the new device and you can than use it on another line.

Some have a clause you have to keep the new line active for 60 days. That way you cant canel the contract on the device. So check Amazon's clause to see what it says.
