Apple approves Playboy app for your viewing pleasure

It was only a matter of time before Apple granted rite of passage to such an app. This past Tuesday, the official Playboy app for the iPhone made its way to an App Store near you (assuming you have one of those sexy pieces of hardware to run it on, pun intended). As everyone knows, the App Store has a firm stance against nudity, but nowhere does it say that an app can't have girls dressed in lingerie, making provocative faces, does it?

As reported by Krapps.com, the app is a scaled down version of the world's largest selling men's magazine. For those who love to "read" Playboy, the app contains write ups from well known features, such as Playboy Interview, Playboy Advisor, 20 Questions, Party Jokes, Fashion, and more. It will also contain exclusive content, as well as the Playmate of the Month's intro, data sheet, preview pictures, and exclusive behind the scenes video. Theresa Hennessey, spokesperson for Playboy, assures people that no nudity will be present in the app. "The pictures are all non-nude or cropped, either from the magazine pictorial or from the Playmate's Playboy.com pictorial."

The app officially goes by the name "Playboy" and will support in-app purchasing, allowing users to buy both current and previous issues at their leisure. The initial release contains both November's historic, Marge Simpson edition, as well as the December issue. The app is available for $1.99, with each additional issue costing an additional $1.99.

This being rated 2.5 stars should be an indication why it shouldn't be headline news, let alone any type of news for that matter.

now apple will update its warranty policy to include sperm in the list of hazardous substances (right after smoke) so it can void your iphone's warranty.

Want to see if your sperm has voided your iPhone warranty? There's an app for that (and it's not from AT&T)!

since you have an iphone I would get you have access to the internet? then image search is ur friend. but i still dont understand how people are so desperate they have to look at porn on thier phone

Oh please, Soldier33. Putting up a front is a tell-tell to us all.

@matt: I don't think Apple restricts pornographic material because they want to regulate the morality of their users. Think about it, if they allowed pornographic apps then there would be a flood of such apps.

its not about watching porn its about freedom of downloading whatever i want and whenever i want. heck i have a freaking computer with me wherever i go.

Then crop a video and sync it to the iPhone? You can get porn on the iPhone as easy as you can any other device...Apple just chooses not to sell you that content themselves. Freedom of expression extends to content providers too.

Is it such a bad thing that Apple doesn't sell R18 contents? What are we going to complain next, that the vending machine don't sell alcohol?

And Matt, no one is controlling what you are downloading. Safari + Google + internet connection = More porn-on-the-go with no restriction. Of course this calls in the question, what is the point of the App. "I read it for the articles"?

Some people have an imagination? Hell I could do it without looking at a girl.

And no, I don't "crack one off" to every girl I see in bra or bikini or whatever, bit if I want to sure yeah I can. I fail to see the problem in that. Heaven forbid I can control my body somewhat.

Seriously? You sound like a 12 yo who never had a "sex talk" with the folks. Grow up.

No nudity? Fail. The articles in Playboy suck and aren't worth anyones time. What I would like is a Perfect 10 app with nudity ;).

"The pictures are all non-nude or cropped, either from the magazine pictorial or from the Playmate's Playboy.com pictorial."

Fail indeed.
