Apple signs iPhone deals for Europe, report says

Apple Inc. has signed its first deals with mobile phone operators to offer its iPhone in three of Europe's largest markets, ending a period of intense negotiations, according to a report in the Financial Times newspaper. Germany's T-Mobile Deutschland GmbH, France's Orange SA and Britain's O2 (UK) Ltd. are reported to have signed exclusive deals to sell the iPhone in their respective markets.

The operators have agreed to give Apple 10 percent of the revenue they generate from the sale of voice and data services for the device, according to the report, which cited unnamed sources. The operators hope to introduce the phone in time for the important Christmas shopping season.

As far as I know, O2 have absolutely zero EDGE support in the UK, so I'm puzzled as to how they're going to support the iPhone's data plan...

Who says the UK version of the iPhone will use EDGE technology? :)
You never know, we might actually get a superior version that supports 3G or HSDPA.

Damnit.. O2?! I left them a few months ago (and moved to T-Mobile) as their data rates were so extortionate. T-Mobile are doing Web 'n' Walk for £7.50 a month.. the best O2 could offer was a 10MB bundle for that rate. The person on the phone sounded surprised when I didn't want to go for it!

Ho hum. Looks like no iPhone for me unless O2 get their act together on data tarrifs.

No love for the great nation of Canadia yet? I'm due for a hardware upgrade today, and I was... you know... hoping to at least demo an iPhone at the store, even if I can't afford one. I haven't seen any of them in the wild yet.

There are quiet a few reasons why we do not have the iPhone yet in Canada. The number one reason that many suspect is that Rogers Wireless/Fido are not willing to lower their data rates and Apple at the same time is not willing to negotiate unless data rates are lowered and decent internet usage plans are offered along with the iPhone.

The other reason that some believe is that the iPhone brand by "Comwave" is stopping Apple from penetrating the Canadian market.

So far, there is no official word from anyone regarding the iPhone, hopefully this will lead Rogers Wireless and Fido to lower their data rates and eventually leading to a competitive data market like the rest of the world.

Sounds like O2 has bad rates too so why would Rogers rates be an issue? I mean I really, really hate rogers but do we really need refurb... I mean iphones here that bad?

bet other networks would like the cheap advertising for them due to iPhone offers as well... :P
they didnt sign just to make apple but not them happy too :P

Hmmm. O2 in the UK? I'm with O2, my contract is due for renewal, I'm due an upgrade. Lets hope that the prices aren't expensive.
