Apple, Sony sued over faulty batteries

Apple and Sony are being sued by a Japanese couple for shipping defective batteries.

Sony says this is the first lawsuit regarding its defective batteries. Many vendors were affected by this matter when ten million Sony-made batteries had to be recalled because of defects.

The litigants in the court case are demanding two million yen [£8,108] in settlement. The case claims the male party "suffered burns to his finger after his laptop battery burst into flames at his home in April last year," Associated Press reports.

His wife claims she then had to get medical treatment for shock as a result of the accident.

The battery problems were caused by a manufacturing glitch which saw microscopic metal particles left inside faulty batteries that could cause them to short circuit.

Apple was forced to recall 1.8 million iBook and PowerBook batteries, as used within 12-inch iBook G4, 12-inch PowerBook G4 and 15-inch PowerBook G4s. Affected batteries were sold worldwide from October 2003 through August 2006.

still. sony should stop making batteries, they suck at it. all these weird recalls on batteries from sony. they should stick to making TVs and stuff like that. even their VAIO sucks.

Completely have to disagree with your comment "even their VAIO sucks", It is the best thing for me while at work - light and easy to move. Along with being very powerful and stable.

Obviously you're just another half wit kid who cannot afford one. Quit the trolling.

Though I have to agree with you on the VAIO, I agree with the kid above on the batteries. It seems that they have made a few bad batches. Then again every produc has its faults.

Another thing: Medical treatment for shock??? Are they talking about electrical shock, or a medical shock where you had a very dramatic incident and follow symptoms of shock?

If Sony stopped making batteries, the people who suffer the most are the laptop manufacturers.
The problem is so wide spread because Sony batteries are considered the best.

male party "suffered burns to his finger after ... His wife claims she then had to get medical treatment for shock as a result of the accident.

Can you imagine such sisy claims in 1941-1945 about wife suing some company because of burns suffered on husband finger? I just can guess why this finger is so important to his wife.

His wife claims she then had to get medical treatment for shock as a result of the accident.

Somehow I just don't believe her!

I initially thought 'oh, heres another case for millions!' then I noticed that 2 million yen is equal is £8000!!!

The case claims the male party "suffered burns to his finger after his laptop battery burst into flames at his home in April last year,"

His laptop burst into flames yet all he suffered was a burnt finger? Was he holding it the time it caught fire? :suspicious:

His laptop battery burst into flames. Not his entire laptop. And, depending on where and how he was holding his laptop at the time, it's entirely possible.
