Apple Student Promotion - Monday

Apple will be launching a new educational promotion, speculated to be as soon as Monday. This program will offer incentives to those in the educational system. There are no details on exactly what is being offered for this promotion, but it is expected to be similar to last year, where students would receive a free iPod. AppleInsider said this would be Apple's biggest promotion to date.

By offering these incentives to students, and faculty members, Apple hopes to see a spike in sales before and during "Back to School".

In terms of qualifying products for the promotion, the Mac Mini has always been excluded from the promotion because of its low cost. Apple will be making the Macbook Air eligible for the promotion, alongside with the Mac Pro, Macbook, Macbook Pro, and the iMac.

I could have sworn I commented on this earlier, but wouldn't this have been better saved til Monday when they make the actual announcement?

This is sure to get the mushhead segment of the market to buy a Mac. It's like a prize in the cereal box- no matter how crappy the cereal, you'll eat it to get to the bottom where the trinket is.

These promotions have been ridiculous in Canada so far. Most companies offer educational discounts ranging in the hundreds. Like I got $200 off on my Gateway Tablet. Apple however offers "sales" such as "$5 off the latest iMac with your student ID".... Like wtf can u do with $5... that AINT NO DISCOUNT!! Also the free iPod ****, the most they offered was the iPod shuffle or 2gb iPod Nano which was no more than $100 max, but if you already own an iPod, then whats the point?

Apple... get real and start offering ACTUAL educational promotions and stop being greedy! At least MS gave us a $999 suit for $64! OSX and iLife are still full price with some educational discounts giving $10 off... like thats nothing.

Hey that's generous! Remember when they had a charity iPod and gave a whopping $5 from their sales to charity? Steve's most generous act to date.

so true, Microsoft give Windows server for free and other softwares and Apple only offer crap for their overprices computers and mp3's.

I agree that the discounts are kind of pathetic if you're not spending two grand on hardware, but then again OS X only costs $130. iWork is like $80.

I've managed to get both XP and Vista, 64 bit and 32 bit, and some other MS software for free through my university. Yet Apple thinks giving a few dollars off their software is an educational discount? Many companies will license their software to you for free if it is being used for educational purposes (might be limited amount of time though)... I will never understand why people love Apple so much.

Because they want to ripoff the people, that's simple as that, they don't really appreciate the customers, if they can suck the last dollar in your pocket they will do it.

What are you talking about? I got $240 off my MacBook Pro with my student discount at a Canadian university... OS X cost me $99 with student discount. Those seem like pretty good deals to me.

In New Zealand, this rebate just got over and I did buy my Macbook in this offer and got my 4GB ipod nano.
