Apple to Provide Mac based DVR in January

TiVo and Microsoft Windows XP Media Center could soon be facing a new opponent in the DVR ring. Apple has plans to reintroduce the Mac Mini as a digital entertainment system, which was its original design intention. At the center of the project, code named "Kaleidoscope", is a Mac Mini featuring an Intel processor and features such as Front Row 2.0 and DVR functionality.

The specifics of the initial systems such as processor speed, RAM, and hard drive configurations have yet to be announced, however, it has been reported that the new Mac Mini will include a built-in iPod dock which is something that was not included in the original Mac Mini. The new Mac Mini is expected to be ready in time for a debut at the Macworld Expo which kicks off on January 19th in San Francisco.
