Apple Watch Magnetic Charging Dock now available for $79 [Update]

Although the charger for the Apple Watch is just "OK" with the watch snapping onto a small magnetic puck that delivers juice through the underside of the unit; third-party offerings deliver a much more elegant and versatile solution by allowing the watch to stand upright while charging. Now, according to newly leaked images, it looks like Apple might have a charging stand of its own in the works..

Photos published by 9to5Mac and grobgebloggt.de show the alleged official packaging of Apple's wireless charging unit. The dock will allow Apple Watch users to sit the watch upright on the pad or face-up as you can see in some of the photos.

According to 9to5Mac, citing description from updated images at grobgebloggt.de, the dock is circular with a built-in magnetic charging puck. The dock is powered by a Lightning cable that connects to the side of the dock to provide power. The charging puck in the center of the dock allows the watch to be charged flat on its back, or it can be flipped up to a vertical position to allow charging in “nightstand mode.”

Currently, it is unknown when or if Apple will release this magnetic charging dock, but according to a sticker that can be seen on the box, and assuming these images are real, it will retail for somewhere in the ballpark of $100.

It has to be noted that photos like the ones above can be easily doctored, so take them with a pinch of salt for now. While it could be fake, it would make sense for Apple to release such a device, especially for other devices that might support wireless charging in the future..
