AT&T is "pleased" with Lumia 900 sales; won't be more specific

In April, AT&T launched the Nokia Lumia 900, the flagship smartphone for both Nokia and Microsoft's Windows Phone operating system. AT&T seemed pleased with the launch of the smartphone at first, but now it seems it is a different story.

Despite a ton of hype and extra marketing from AT&T, Nokia and Microsoft for the Lumia 900 launch, AT&T failed to disclose how many units of the smartphone it sold in the second quarter of 2012 when it revealed its latest financial results today. AT&T did report that it sold a total of 5.1 million smartphones during the quarter and that it activated 3.7 million of Apple's iPhones during the same period.

Overall, AT&T generated revenues of $31.6 billion for the quarter, up just slightly compared to the same period a year ago. Operating income came in at $6.8 billion, up from $6.2 billion compared to Q2 2011. AT&T also gained 1.3 million new wireless subscribers in the last quarter, giving the company a total of 105.2 million wireless users.

The fact that AT&T failed to disclose how many Lumia 900 devices it sold in its debut quarter, while also bragging about its iPhone sign ups, can't be seen as a good sign for Nokia or AT&T. We emailed AT&T to see if they would reveal exactly how many Lumia 900 smartphones it sold in the second quarter. An AT&T spokesperson replied to our inquiry by saying simply, "We are pleased with Lumia sales but are not offering a specific figure."
