AT&T off contract Lumia 920 only $450

As we already know, AT&T finally gave a launch date for the Lumia 920 yesterday and pre-orders for the device have started today. The Nokia Windows Phone comes with a really nice price tag of only $99 on contract.

But what’s even more interesting is that the off contract Lumia 920 is available for only $450, while everyone expected the price to be around $599. Now that awesome price does come with a bit of a limitation: the phone comes without a monthly contract, but it still is locked on AT&T.

And to top everything off those of you that pre-ordered from Best Buy can rest easy as you’ll actually get the phone for this price and not the original $599. Yea that’s right, Best Buy has officially said it would be price matching the AT&T off contract Lumia.

You can pre-order the phone now and it will ship on the 9th. Unless you choose the Glossy Yellow variant in which case it will ship on the 12th.

So what do you folks think, are you excited about the price? Be sure to let us know in the comments below.

I thought the phone only came in yellow. I am really happy to see a nice choice of colors (should I decide to jump ship from iOS). At that price point, it is VERY compelling to buy.

And the Rogers 920 in Canada off contract is over $600, the last time I looked the Canadian Dollar was worth more than the US dollar, yet we pay quite a bit more.

stop acting like the Canadian dollar is worth tons more, they have been on par with each other for like 5 years now, +/- a few cents.

It's because Rogers isn't going to cut the price and take a hit on selling you one off contract like AT&T will. Remember this is off contract but still SIM locked iirc, so it's for those who just want a new phone but already have a AT&T SIM etc.

Why only in the US?

Because that $450 is due to AT&T subsidizing it. If some other carrier wants to do the same in the EU then you can find it for less as well.

Considering trying to buy one of these and get it shipped to Australia, since it costs almost twice as much in Australia.

is it possible to grab one of these and then use a cellphone unlocker service to get the phone fully unlocked? i've done this in the past with Samsung phones but not sure how Nokia will be

This is not fully unlocked. Where can I get a *fully unlocked* lumia 920...?

Expansys or other online retailers.

Thank you for the site name. I have bookmarked it.

But no price listed yet except white one which is $799 and no cyan

Maybe I am missing something but what is the advantage of spending $450 to get a locked phone? It could be a good price if it was SIM free but as it is I do not see any advantage.

you're missing a lot. first of all, you won't be able to put it on anything but Tmobile or ATT. and who wants tmobile lol.

What do you mean? I always buy my phones in Europe, I pay more than a subsidized device but they are SIM free and with two years warranty. If you plan to use it with AT&T only buy one for $99 or whatever the price is, you are locked to them anyway.....

It's a separate purchase according to Nokia and a fairly expensive one as well.

Maybe I'll just get a Chinese knockoff wireless charger that shoots electric arcs all over the place.

They're also including a free wireless charging plate (while supplies last) in this deal -- which is a $40 value I believe.

Right now though, there appears to be an issue with their site because I was going to pre-order, but I was unable to add the charging plate because I can't locate the item as an accessory. Others have reported success, and I chatted with an AT&T online rep who said they know about the issue and she offered to place the order for me but that I wouldn't receive the charging plate and to check back. Not too sure what the deal is with this, I tried to place my order at midnight and it was never listed -- even now -- so your luck may vary.

Karen K.: Welcome to AT&T online Sales support. How may I assist you with placing your order today?
Andrew: I tried to pre-order the Lumia 920, and according to the press release here (http://www.att.com/gen/press-r...ode=consumer|mobile-devices) I should receive a free wireless charging plate. I can't find it on the site to add it to my order. Is it automatically sent? I know there are multiple colors, do I have a choice?
Karen K.: I will be happy to help you with your order.
Andrew: Are others having this problem too?
Karen K.: I am very sorry for the frustration however we are aware that it is not available online at this time. When we have more information on it we will let you know. You can still order the phone online and then check back with us on the charging plate.
Andrew: Hmm ok, well I'll just go into the store then on Friday.
Andrew: Thank you.

Well let's see:

Nexus 4
8GB = $299
16GB = $349
32GB = oops, none
LTE = oops, none

I guess the good news is that it's S4 Pro and 2GB. Anyway, enjoy your Nexus 4.

why do you need 32gb on a phone?

For that price you could buy 2 Nexus 7's

Why are you talking about the Nexus 7? The article does not discuss the Nexus 7, so why do you bring it up? Why are you comparing a phone with a tablet? The only Nexus that allows non-WiFi data is the most expensive Nexus ($299, so you cannot get two of them for the price of this) requires additional software not installed on the device to make phone calls.
