Big Xbox One prop in Vancouver opens up; zombies show up

Earlier this week, Microsoft placed a 40 foot long and 20 feet high Xbox One prop on a parking lot in Vancouver. Microsoft asked people to "pledge" their Xbox Live gamertags so they could reach a certain goal and open up what was inside the prop.

On Halloween Thursday, that pledge goal was reached and, as promised, the big Xbox One prop opened up and some zombies started showing up outside. The official Xbox Canada Twitter feed showed pictures of the zombie outbreak, which was staged to help promote the Xbox One launch title Dead Rising 3, was developed by Capcom's Vancouver team.

After the zombie outbreak was defeated by some of the Dead Rising 3 human characters outside, the public was allowed to go inside the big Xbox One, where Microsoft had set up stations to actually play the open world zombie action game, along with the fighting game Killer Instinct.

The huge Xbox One is now slated to go to other parts of Canada in the coming weeks leading up to the launch of the real game console on November 22nd. Microsoft is already collecting gamertags to unlock the big prop at its next event, but specifics have yet to be announced.

I'm surprised no one got hurt. While it sounds pretty awesome, if they keep going around doing this, eventually they are gonna run into some guy that spent his whole life preparing for the zombie apocalypse, and he's gonna go on a zombie killing spree in the hopes of saving the human race...

I really like Microsoft's marketing.

The launch line up for each console is so bad. This time next year i'm sure i'll be singing the consoles praises but at the moment neither company want my money... or i'm getting fed up with gaming.

I remember lots of console launch lineups being weak. There's at best 1-2 games people will give a try but nothing super big to make a fuss about.

True. I just remember being more excited by past launches. Perhaps because really they're just upgraded versions of their older console.

Last generation was a big leap due to the jump to HD.

I really like the launch lineup of Xbox One... the PS4 games; not so much. But it'll get better eventually for both sides.

Indeed, I too like the X1 lineup. Forza, DR3, Ryse, Killer Instinct, and with Titanfall due a month or two later, that's enough for me until early next year.

Oh wow! The inside of it looks sweet! That's a great idea!

It'll be cool if each day different game characters show up
