'Dead Rising 2,' expansion now available for free for Xbox Live Gold members

Dead Rising 2" and "Dead Rising 2: Case Zero" are now available for free for Xbox Live Gold members.

"Dead Rising 2" and its stand-alone expansion "Dead Rising 2: Case Zero" are now available for Xbox Live Gold members for free until Sept. 1 as part of Microsoft's Games with Gold promotion.

Users can download the games by going to the Xbox Live dashboard and selecting them or by adding them to their consoles' download queues on the Xbox Live website, seen below. "Dead Rising 2" typically costs $29.99 on Xbox Live, while "Case Zero" is usually 400 MS points (about $5).

Microsoft has released a free Xbox 360 game for Gold subscribers on the first and 16th of every month since "Fable III" was made available for free on June 15. So far, "Fable III," "Assassin's Creed II," "Defense Grid" and "Crackdown" have been made available for free through the program. "Halo 3" is planned to be released as part of the program at some point, though an exact date has yet to be announced.

The Games with Gold promotion lasts until the end of the year.

Remember that these games attach to your account ("grab them before they're gone and keep them no matter what") so you don't have to actually download the games before the deadline; just do the initial purchase step and they'll still be available for download whenever you're ready.

Yeah, I basically "purchase" them whenever I see the links on the website then they'll download whenever I finally turn my Xbox on again I turned it on the other day and had like 30GB of stuff to download.

Are you sure after this period its still free to download?
I purchased some WP8 games that had free time deals. And after flashing my phone and trying to reinstall them, they had a price-tag.

Awesome! It's a nice program, to offer games for free, a shame it only runs for the remainder of this year

Looking forward to play #2, only played the first one!

Who knows what the future may bring? New management now and we've already seen them change things due to fans. Might as well see this extended, but maybe just for future XB1 games/Gold members? Only time will tell.

As Sony continue to improve PSN+ microsoft wont have any choice but to offer something more. XBox Live Gold might be totally awesome if you live in USA (i dunno actually if you got more than us) but outside of it it's actually a lackluster service not worth the price asked. It's basically Steam for between 40$ and 60$ a year depending on rebate and promotion.

There's hardly any deal worth talking about on the marketplace in canada. And they are usually not advertised at all. Unless you open your xbox every day and go to the deals section you wont know about them (unlike Steam where they are advertised on the main window). I'm sure lot of people don't even know MS is giving away games for free right now it's not advertised at all in the dashboard.

Service like Netflix ***** for canada they are not worth using right now imo.

There's lot of latency while playing because there's no dedicated servers. Last time i played seriously there was lot of cheating too (probably around 5 years ago).

It's a nice service and certainly better than PSN+ right now so the free games given by Sony did notmatter much this gen. But as PSN+ continue to improve the free games is certainly not something MS will be able to ignore for long. Right now if Sony is as generous next gen (and Microsoft not) it's certainly something i'll consider before making my choice. Cause here in canada all the TV ***** gonna be a big fail again i'm even willing to bet my house on it.

I see many PS3 players nowadays have PSN+, those are never going to switch since in just the 7months I've been using PSN+, I've gathered over 50 free games into my library. That for just 40 euro's has been an absolute bargain and makes the console so much more worth buying. (Not even counting the price reductions on almost every game that gets released). PSN+ makes the Vita worth buying says plenty I think

I actually thought MS would have this covered for the next gen, but now its an uncertainty again? To bad.

And yea, the TV junk is mainly for US, rest of the world are very common with downloading their series and movies due to us having to wait anyways
Besides we already have tv-cards that you just slide into a slow in the tv, which you can use for streaming TV, On-Demand is practically default on every provider here, and you don't need an extra device, its part of your tv.

Actually it gets put on the home page of the dashboard on the first day it's made free at least. I downloaded assassins creed 2 directly off the home page on the dashboard where it said Free Games For Gold!

So try turning on your Xbox at least once before commenting.
