Dell and Microsoft To Enhance Real-Time Communications

REDMOND, Wash. -- Dec. 9, 2003 -- Microsoft Corp. today announced that Dell has implemented Microsoft® Office Live Meeting and MSN® Messenger Connect for Enterprises, enhancing its real-time communications and collaboration capabilities. The ability to integrate managed public instant messaging (IM) and Web conferencing capabilities into the new versions of Microsoft Office and Microsoft Office SharePoint (TM) Portal Server 2003, used by Dell for internal company portals, played a role in Dell's decision to select these technologies. To complete the real-time infrastructure, Dell plans to deploy Microsoft Office Live Communications Server 2003, which adds internal enterprise IM and an interactive communications platform for these internal applications.

"As we expand globally, our strategy is to deploy technology that easily integrates and streamlines internal and external communications," said LaVerne Council, vice president of IT at Dell. "Microsoft's collaboration technologies improve our ability to serve our customers, manage work globally, and save time and money."

"Our customers have made it increasingly clear that it is important to communicate in real time to run their businesses more effectively and efficiently, and solve core business problems faster," said Anoop Gupta, corporate vice president of the Real-Time Collaboration Business Unit at Microsoft. "Together with Dell, we are excited to see our complete real-time communications vision begin to come to fruition. Microsoft's complementary collaboration offerings integrate to help businesses achieve substantial productivity gains while reducing costs."
