DirectX 9 Prepatched DOES NOT WORK on Windows XP

Heh, I already had reservations about posting the "patched" DX9 binary on Neowin. It's fun to leak wholesome betas but it gets less interesting for me (and Neowin) when "groups" start hex editing the files. Tiburan sent me an email with his findings of what this patch does -very little in fact!

The DirectX 9 Prepatched file updates the system. However, upon reboot we found that running "dxdiag" displays the correct DirectX 9 version number, however looking detailed into the files, the previous DirectX 8 files exist. Looking into the event logs show this error, but repeated for various files.

File replacement was attempted on the protected system file c:windowssystem32ddraw.dll. This file was restored to the original version to maintain system stability. The file version of the bad file is 5.2.3642.80, the version of the system file is 5.1.2600.0.
