Hey .stan where did you get the .msi from, I'm also being unable to install it, neither the Full.exe not the web installer work for me.

MSI can be found here - http://beta.skype.com/en/business/downloading/

The EXE installer isn't broken - the problem is that at some point you must have upgraded Skype using the MSI with the version number in the filename. When you subsequently use the EXE installer, it looks for the already-saved MSI from the previous install in C:\ProgramData\Skype\{4E7.... Because the old one doesn't have the generic Skype.msi name, it fails.

The only way round the failure of the EXE installation (apart from use the MSI installer) is to delete the contents of C:\ProgramData\Skype\{4E7.... the try again (you'll have to sign in again). Any subsequent upgrades should work fine with the EXE installer.

desktop client is so bloated. I just use the metro app.

Weird, all I see is a narrow window with my contacts listed and a few buttons at the top.
Doesn't seem bloated to me at all, any less and it'll be unusable really.

It's not very bloated at all. I usually do use the Metro app, but sometimes i have to switch over to the desktop version to send/receive files.

Say what you will but they're at least working on the ui. Lots of people say they don't like it's ui.

This update kills all of my Windows 8 machines, when ever Skype is opened everything freezes and the only way out is to Task Manager and kill the process, I have tried upgrading and Fresh installs. On the Windows 7 machines, no problem at all it runs just as well as 6.1.

I've just installed the new Skype on Windows 8. Seems fine? Program seems to work just as well as 6.1.
Not sure if the users of the machines use it to sent files constantly, if not. The metro app is a good substitute.
