EA officially announces Command & Conquer 4

Today Electronic Arts (EA) has officially announced the development of Command & Conquer 4 for the PC platform with a shipping release date sometime in 2010.

The Command & Conquer (C&C) franchise started back in 1995 designed for the PC which was then ported to numerous platforms including the Sega Saturn, Playstation, Nintendo 64 and multiple other systems.

The franchise as a whole is made up of multiple story lines across the different Command & Conquer games, the original started the Tiberium arc which has been continued across 3 games so far, and has been announced to be concluded in C&C4 next year.

The Command & Conquer 4 story will let you once again take control of either GDI or NOD factions, battling over the remains of earth after Tiberium has spread to a point where only 6 years remain before the planet is consumed by the alien substance.
Once again Kane returns from his rumoured death to continue the fight against the GDI, though it is currently not known or released if the third faction, the Scrin as seen in Tiberium Wars, will return as a playable side or just an enemy for you to fight through the campaign.

A new class based structure has been put in place which include offence and defence classes for your units, and an introduction of mobile bases for the Tiberium story arc which were used heavily in the previous C&C release, Red alert 3.

Players will now have a consistent profile that compiles progression throughout the game, whether you are in the single-player campaigns or battling on-line in the multi-player. Co-op will also return from C&C:RA3 letting players fight through the campaign with a friend, or be part of a team with the new 5vs5 objective multi-player mode.

It will suck, period. Same old same old. Will feature some great FMV sequences (translated: crappy cutscenes performed by Hollywood has-beens desperate to ressurrect a career by saying how great it is to be in a game), and like all other EA efforts before it will not work straight out of the box and will need a load of patches before it's even remotely playable, at least one of which will be needed to fix problems introduced by a patch at which point they will throw in a 'free' map. Will also hold back features for the inevitable expansion pack and will come bundled with some form of 'genuine user prevention and penalisation' scheme a la DRM.

In the hands of any other developer I'd be drooling to get this game but EA insist on screwing this fanchise up more and more with each and every subsequent release. Seen all the above before, the only good news here is that it is the conclusion.

Oh, shut up. Forming conclusions before you have any evidence whatsoever is just sad.

I agree with Akima.

Every time they release a new version I kind of expect something cool. The game hardly seems different from the first c&c + red alert!

I play it with my friends via multiplayer against the computer expecting it to get better with the newer version but the AI is always the same. Whoever gets to the ore first wins the game.

EA has just earned the title, Champion of The Franchise Wastes. Seriously CNC3 was kinda ok but yay for EA making epic RTS games feel like their NFL expansion packs they charge full price for year after year.

How exactly are they doing this?

The video on the CNC4 website reeks of some sportscast.

Ah, because it was! it's not from the game, the trailer hasn't been released yet! sheesh. C&C4 is looking freaking awesome! looks like the Mammoth Mark 2 is back is some shape or form along with the Orca Transport from Tiberian Sun, sounds good to me!

Hmm conclusion to the tiberium universe they say? Well they better not make the campaigns one set story... I want each faction to be the winner at the end of their campaign... if they make it one storyline i bet thoese stupid GDI will be the winners :/

well atleast they seem to have listened to the majority of their fans :P http://image.com.com/gamespot/images/2009/...90screen001.jpg judging by that screenshot GDi are going with mechs again :P ah the memories from tiberian sun :P

Yeah you had to play C&C3 on hardmode to get any value out of the single player missions or it was a bit of a face roll.

Yeah I played it on hard, took me a while to finish the game. Then again I generally take a while to finish most games. There were one or two missions though that seemed really unbalanced - the one GDI mission where you had to maneuver your mcv past nod troops and then establish a base with three different NOD bases attacking you simulatanously took me forever.

Awesome, hopefully they make it a bit longer then C&C3! C&C3 was great but far too short! looking forward to find out what happens next, should be good

What you mean when will it end? C&C4 is the final game for the Tiberium story arc, be a shame to see it go but it was a blast while it lasted

Awesome, I wasnt expecting to see another one of these bad boys for another 5 years. Good to see the story continues so soon. Sounds like the storyarc would have to be winding up thought which could be a good thing.

Awesome indeed. Leave out the SecuROM and you'll have a customer, leave it in and you wont. I would live to play RA3 after being in the beta, but I refuse so long as that malware copy protection is left in it.

1. SecuRom works just fine it is not malware periond the end.
2. Your loose not mine

Where is all the Nvidia logos? only AMD?

I haven't followed EA for quite some time but they had a pretty heavy Nvidia partnership before didn't they?

always remember when i saw the EA logo and then the Nvidia "The way its meant to be played" Logo when a game started up i was in for something good lol

Yay, I wonder how ELSE they can fu*k the series up?

Add school girls, bears, cartoon graphics, anime heroes, make aircraft carrier and tanks same size, remove harvesters and make economy for 7 years old, make all generals woman (some were sluts) ... oh, wait, that was in RA3

Hmmm, add flying ships, enable all buildings and tanks be on water so there won't be any difference between land and water anymore... oh, wait, that was in RA3

Er two questions:
1). How was that a reply to the previous comment?
2). What relevance does RA3 have to C&C4? RA has always been the "crazy" series.

FoxieFoxie said,
1. I am attention whore
2. It's CnC series, GDI and NOD are related to Allies and Soviet,s check wiki for more info

While the RA and C&C universes are linked, RA3's craziness likely has no bearing on C&C4.

RA was never 'VERY' crazy, it happened in ra3 only and yuris (whicih of course was messed up by ea, cause original ra2 was already almost finished before ea bought westwood)
