EA's bid to acquire GTA franchise shot down

And who said there is never any news on Sunday? Electronic Arts has "terminated discussions" with Take Two, the makers of Grant Theft Auto, after spending nearly seven months working on a potential merger deal. EA had offered $2 billion for the company, something that Take Two considered to be inadequate. As part of the deal that would have EA drop their hostile takeover plans, Take Two agreed to privately disclose their three-year plans for future gaming titles.

NICE! 'When I read the title I thought EA bought it but I read it again and again and again... to understand the offer was declined! Arggg I'm so happy :D
EA FTL, Take 2 FTW.

Great news! The only good that could come from EA's acquisition of GTA would be... ?

Yeah, pretty much.

Great. It's not like Take Two is bleeding money and has to appease its shareholders by whoring itself out. They're doing fine on their own.

EA aren't that makers of GTA, that's Rockstar North, based in Scotland. Take2 are the current publishers.

"Take-Two's subsidiary Rockstar Games created the Grand Theft Auto series, which includes Grand Theft Auto, Grand Theft Auto 2, Grand Theft Auto III, Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories, Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories, and Grand Theft Auto IV." - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Take-Two_Interactive

EA was trying to become the owners of the GTA series through a hostile takeover of Take Two Interactive. It has failed.

Yes, but, I was referring to the news summary posted:

They aren't the makers, just the publishers

They are the makers because they are Rockstar. As I pointed out, Rockstar is their subsidiary and that means that Rockstar is part of Take Two.

EA will eventually componentize games to the point that the core game will just be the loader. Graphics, music, sound effects and user input will be separate.
