ESET Smart Security Public Beta 1a

ESET Smart Security is a fully integrated security solution and includes antivirus, anti-spyware, a personal firewall and antispam. While some competitive solutions purport to have similar functionality, ESET has developed a unique approach that provides true and full integration of point security solutions. The key advantage of this approach is that individual protection modules are able to communicate together seamlessly, to create unparalleled synergy to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of protection. Moreover, the integrated architecture guarantees optimal utilization of system resources, so ESET Smart Security continues ESET's well know reputation for providing rock solid security in a small footprint that will not slow down an individual's computer.

What's new

ESET Smart Security is a milestone in the field of computer protection against infiltrations and attacks. The program offers more than just a sum of its parts – it is synergy that matters most. If all components are used simultaneously, the effectiveness of the whole program is multiplied. ESET Smart Security unifies all its functions to create a complex security solution.

ESET Smart Security is based on three basic pillars:

ESET NOD32 Antivirus + Antispyware

This component is in fact an improved version of the award-winning scanning engine of NOD32 Antivirus v2.7.

ESET Personal Firewall

Firewall monitors all traffic between a protected computer and other computers in the local network and in the Internet.

ESET Anti Spam

ESET Anti Spam serves to filter unsolicited email, which makes your work with email more effective.

Here is the changelog for the release:

    * Improved compatibility with other installed TDI filters, such as Sunbelt Software Personal Firewall.
    * Fixed an issue with notification windows not being displayed when the firewall is in Interactive Mode.
    * Fixed an issue with excluding applications from being checked for modifications.

    * Fixed an issue with the graphic user interface not properly reporting when real-time file system protection had been disabled.
    * Fixed an issue with how real-time file system protection scanned newly-created or modified files. Real-time scanning now properly quarantines files infected files on network shares.

    * Fixed the problem with scanning the "My Computer" object or individual files were checked.

    * Fixed an issue with Microsoft Outlook 2007 crashing when closed.

    * Fixed two issues which prevented ESET Smart Security from installing on some computers.

Several misspellings in the user interface and in the online help have been corrected as well.

This is BETA software!, please use caution when installing it on your system!

Nod and kasper are similar in the way it works. So if it sees kasper as nod and vice versa, uninstall it. As for memory, currently it uses 28meg which aint much considering how good it is. in this release they have fixed all the problems I had, eg, interactive mode, cannot wait untill its final and I can give them loads of money for a very good product, well, not to much.

Why does it say this when I launch the installer?

"The product does not support upgrade from older versions of NOD32. Please uninstall NOD32 and run the installer again."

I just have Kaspersky installed, but got it disabled when running this setup.

I'd be interested in someone doing a review between KIS 6 and this. So far I am in love with KIS 6 on Vista but you never know.

hey i wanted to ask...will the features be an option..for example i only want the anti virus and anti spyware features from the suite...can i choose only those from the installation bit?

i dont need the firewall..and anti spam...

hey ..i wanted to know..will a new version of the stand alone anti virus also be released?
and secondly, will it have the same cool/clean interface as the one shown on the screenshots?

i currently use kaspersky 6.0......which is better?

pm me...

It's totally not bloated. It's about as perfect as they come right now. Even in beta form in total the entire thing is using around 35 megs of memory on my system, with everything enabled (and a virus scan running)

UI is great, the options are terrific, and since it is an ESET/NOD product, it scans super fast, and doesn't bog the system down. So far so good. Hopefully though, it won't cost $99 or something.

Thats 10mb more than the equal kaspersky suite... tho I like this ones interface and its defiantly not bloated and the firewall doesn't have enough options to open ports etc

pyehac said,
hopefully this won't be bloated like (some) other all in one security programs
Fingers crossed and does the best of all 3 worlds then any other company
