EU probes HP over ink prices

"HP is coming under scrutiny of the European Union over antitrust issues in the inkjet cartridges market.

The printer and imaging division of HP accounts for almost half of the group's (pre-Compaq) revenues; and supplies, such as printer cartridges, accounts for more than half of that division's sales. The EU is contemplating whether or not HP is forcing users to buy own-brand consumables rather than cheaper equivalents.

So far as the print media business is concerned - well the products are expensive, and disproportionately so when compared to the printers themselves. It seems odd that it has taken the EU so long to catch on to the fact. "
