FBI raids homes of alleged members of Anonymous in NY

While Lulzsec took the spotlight yesterday afternoon in its successful defacement of The Sun’s website, displaying an article that claimed Rupert Murdoch had died, the FBI was busy following through on search warrants in NY to arrest alleged members of rival hacktivist group Anonymous. According to Fox News, at least 10 FBI agents showed up at Giordani Jordan’s doorstep in Baldwin, NY this Tuesday morning, as similar search and seizure raids were conducted in Long Island, NY and Brooklyn, NY.

Law enforcement told Fox News that Jordan’s computer equipment was being used in some of Anonymous’ infamous DDoS (Distributed Denial of Service) attacks, which can take a website down by simply flooding it with requests.

These police actions follow a string of similar arrests in Europe, starting with 19-year old Londoner Ryan Cleary and heading to locations in Switzerland and Italy afterwards.

As law enforcement agencies around the world struggle to keep up with the burgeoning anti-sec groups, hacktivist groups that aim to expose websites’ security vulnerabilities by attacking and pillaging their data stores, the attention may only serve to redouble the efforts of the accused to continue their streak of successes.

After Anonymous attacked Mastercard and Visa’s websites earlier this year in response to the companies’ refusal to accept donations to Wikileaks, Anonymous and other groups like Lulzsec have taken advantage of increased media attention to attack websites and companies, almost feeding off the attention they are given every step of the way.

Are you serious ? So they basically raided someone who was using the LOIC ? That's supposed to stop Anonymous ? There are hundreds of people using LOIC, as of now we don't know who are the people that are actually essential to anonymous. I'm not talking about the "core members", i'm talking about the masterminds who organize not only DDoS but street protests. Wake me up when some of these guys is apprehended, arresting LOIC users is at best worthy of a LOL.

you need to understand where this is happening. It's America, where you're guilty until proven innocent, and even then you're still guilty, and it's full of flag toting vigilante justice.

To put it bluntly, they're stupid.

The only way you could have this opinion is if you are a foreigner, and you have a loved one who was stupid enough to join the jihad against America. Within America, as was recently proven with the Casey Anthony trial, it is insanely difficult to get a conviction of anybody. They'll probably claim Aspurger's and get off scot free.

American jurisdictional system doesn't care if you're medically handicapped and that causes you to do it or not, you get sentanced the same.

I call BS. The American justice system is a joke. If you kill someone who isn't rich or important or famous, the court systems don't really give a ****, especially if you have a high paid attorney. But, if you commit a "crime" against a corporation, then you are guilty until proven innocent, or proven guilty. Our lawmakers are concerned only with rich people (themselves) and the corporations who give them money.

I don't get it.. Why would the FBI comment to Rupert Murdochs owned fox news? I think fox news and all other Rupert Murdochs media outlets should be raided before anon was raided as anon just provides the truth and the raid on anon members before raiding all media outlets ownd bye Rupert Murdoch proves we need ppl like anon.

Not saying that I beleave what anon does because I don't but I'm starting to now. But I would never be part of what they do as I don't want to be someone toy in jail.

I don't understand the insane animosity that people have with Anon and LulSec. I agree that DDOS'ing a site is a joke but there's more too it then that. There's always been a white/grey/black hat game as long as the internet has been here, just because it's gained hyper publication recently it seems that everyone's a critic. Except it for what it is and for something that wont go away, if one group moves on another will move in. Shrug.

I want more hacking from both Anonymous and LulzSec. Clearly people don't get that just by one little arrest, nothing will really stop. There are no central leaderships in these groups. So why would they stop?

What about 20 or 30 nationwide? That's what happens when you broadcast your exploits to the world. They will find you eventually.

Your silly to think it will stop.

The ones getting caught are the script kiddies who don't understand what's up. The cops are just grasping at straws and finding the weak ones.

Shocker.

ironic no? They are for freedom of information?

Anonymous: we stand for openness of information!

That's not ironic. That's expected. Freedom of information requires anonymity. When you fear what will happen when you speak freely you need to hide your identity. So being anonymous is about freedom of information.

these people are morons, they call themselves anonymous but love all the public attention that they get for their attacks, they call themselves Anonymous yet the have federal agents knocking on their front doors?

Hahaha Prison... Trust me! they will all end up working at the pentagon, with a salary that is higher than the presidents.

LOL zomg desire for fame is what differentiates them from other script-kiddies, guys with a real work at security companies are much skilled than these cheap script-kiddies.

Oh, right. Dare to dream. That's what always happens when someone gets arrested.

I know that is what will more likely happen but that will **** me off. They cause us tax payers a lot of money and then they get off the hook and get a good job is bs. These people should not be given an opportunity.

I hate to break it to you but if you actually think the majority white hat security people are good at security... Well, one day you'll be in for the shock of your life.

These noobs apparently weren't annonymous enough. Although I'm genuinely interested how many proxies or otherwise these people were using when these crimes were committed.

DDoS'ing through a proxy, with the speed of proxies being slow it wouldn't do much, which is why they generally use home internet connections from large botnets. Or, the idiots in this case, used their own connection.

Payback on who? One of the literally millions of anonymous members? Just one, poor old guy, that forgot to proxy up.
