Feeling the effects of Mapathy? Infinity Ward has the cure

Infinity Ward has posted a tongue-in-cheek website detailing the horrible affliction of 'mapathy', and how a dose of the upcoming Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 map pack will cure all symptoms. The game’s first downloadable content is a timed Xbox 360 exclusive releasing on March 30 with promises of other systems in the near future.

This announcement was first posted by Infinity Ward’s Robert Bowling in a recent tweet.

http://www.mapathy.com – Feeling the effects of Mapathy? It’s okay, the cure is hitting #Xboxlive in just 3 short weeks. #MW2

The website offers the following definition of the sickness:

Mapathy (n.) [map-uh-thee] (often expressed as, “How the hell did you know I was there?!”) is a state of indifference to the same old maps one has been playing for the last several months. The Mapathetic individual no longer derives pleasure from blowing up people hiding in the cockpit or on top of the crane. More than 20 million people may be at risk for Mapathy.

The first footage of the map pack, dubbed the “Stimulus Package”, has been posted posted by The Tech Game.

I don't feel sorry for anyone who bought the game and is now complaining about paid DLC... especially for the PC. You should have known better. This topic was beaten to death all over the web. If you don't care about having to pay for it then I'm not talking to you :)

When you bought the game you decided that it was okay to not have user-made dedicated servers with any type of modding (SDK or map editor) available. Since it's not there, they will have to make it and chances are pretty darn low that it will be free. What are they, VALVE? Didn't think so.

When this comes out I'm pretty sure it will sell like hotcakes too.. and guess what? They'll keep doing it because people _will_ buy it. In fact, a LOT of people will buy this map pack and they know it, I know it, and you better know it. I'd charge $15 too if I knew my customers would gladly shell it out. After all, these are the same people who paid $60 for a (good and fun) locked down game so why wouldn't they buy the map pack?

Alot of people are complaining about the price...
But for just maps they have a point... Shouldn't it be free?

Yes, but they are playing on both the nostalgia, and remember, they're supposed to unlock GTNW and other game types. If not in this, then in the second DLC they announced. I do agree that a map (stress MAP) pack should not be over 800 points

Well that's awesome, i for one will be getting the map pack. Dont have BC2, and as much as i want it, i cant afford the hardware upgrades i'd need in order to run BC2.

For me it will throw some nice change into a game I enjoy.

Cool for mw2.

But, have a look at The Tech Game's forum threads and tell me if you find anything "stolen" from this site.

Cheeky buggers :O

1) I would do the mapathetic girl

I hate to say it but same here, for #2 that is. I sure would hate to do that mapathy girl. I'm not really a fan of BC2 mainly because it feels like you're floating around and the turns are annoyingly slow and CoD is just sooo much smoother. Other than that, I loved the campaign a lot better than MW 1&2's. Online not so much.

1) Hell yes
2) I haven't gained hardly any XP lately because i have a class set up especially to hunt boosters, it's awesome collecting hate mail messages for oiks who get so frustrated when i follow them from game to game ruining there nuke boost kill streaks. This has livened the game up again for me :D

Booster hunting is so much fun. It ****es so many people off and yet we're doing something wrong here??? I don't think so. We're trying to help clean it up lol It's just so much fun to go **** people off when they're trying to cheat. With a headset and telling everyone too gets them really ****ed.

Lightweight, Marathon, Sit-rep. If you're really going for humiliation, C4 them out of their hole.

I already paid for these damn maps once. I'm not paying for them again just because they've been touched up a bit. Plus, I'm tired of paying $60+ for a game only to pay another $30 in DLC. It's just too much damn money.

+1... million

I'm not paying to get the same old maps. $9.99 like what I paid for the map pack for CoD4 is the most I'll pay and it better be at least 4 or more maps like the other one too

Or you could just wait till it goes on sale for a weekend like CoD4's did.

I really want to use that stock photo and change the wording to something like "Do you suffer from GENITAL WARTS?"

What the heck... many of these just like remade CoD 4 maps. Sort of expected that anyways. Just like Wasteland is a remake of the sniper map from (i think) CoD2. No thank you.

Wow... they are really lazy... and they will probably sell them as expensive as always.

Is that video from a reliable source? Just because it says it's real doesn't mean it is. It looks like the old maps with stuff added to the landscape. That could've been done either legitimately and it is real or by anyone and just another fake. I'd rather take it as fake. I wouldn't pay anything to get the old maps back on the new game. I'll just go back to MW1 to get them.

That's the point though.

MW1 was a game of epic proportions, and despite all the people that bash it these days in favor of WaW, that game was a HUGE success. I know plenty of people that are thrilled at the aspect of bringing back favorite maps from CoD4 to play on with the new aspects of MW2. Better graphics and possibly new additions to these are also quite welcome, and I'm willing to bet you that stupid glitch-into-the-wall in the riverbed in Overgrown is fixed too. So what IW is doing here is bringing back favorite parts of a major seller, hopefully to entice players back into MW2. And think, everyone above complaining that it'll take a full MS point card instead of half of one? Did you see how many maps there were? Along with rumors of spec-ops missions, and other content, this DLC vastly outweighs that of the original MW, and although you get Nazi Zombies levels for WaW, we STILL will probably be getting more content out of this (remember Global Thermal Nuclear War?) So i say that if we get a good enough addition from this download, it's worth the price, and I'm just personally waiting to be able to take full advantage of Overgrown all over again =D

Woohoo, charging 1/3 the price of the game for a map... 1/2 the price if you get the game on sale

If it's on sale, it costs more...?

All for the low low price of $19.95... lol seriously... Unless the Map Pack is free what is the point?

Yeah it better be free (unlikely) or at least reasonably priced (still unlikely).

I doubt the DLC will be free even on the PC seeing as the game uses Steamworks which allows for DLC to be purchased from the Steam Store.

Not to mention they've shown that they have no issue with slapping an additional $10 on their PC version of the game for no reason. (especially no reason, given the ripped features)

If it were free they wouldn't need to advertise it.

For?

A non-free, console exclusive map-pack for a game that is sorely lacking in so many ways. Besides, BC2 has new maps coming at pretty much the same time.

I see little point in playing MW2 any more.

Or you could stop being so pedantic? I was expressing my dislike for the fact that this is a paid-for (bad) console exclusive (also bad) map-pack for a game that has declined in popularity on my chosen platform (bad again). Not that hard to get.

Because this is how people use comments sections on news...to express how they feel.
