First batch of Windows 8.1 Preview updates rolling out

Microsoft has pushed out the first batch of Windows 8.1 Preview updates through Windows Update less than a week after it was made available to the public. There are six updates in total, two of which are "important" while the other four are "recommended", and they address a range of things from virus definition updates for Windows Defender to fixing Windows Store apps that may crash upon launch.

The updates are available for both the x86/x64 Windows 8.1 Preview and the Windows RT 8.1 Preview, so you can now download them through Windows Update, found under the Updates & Recovery section of the PC Settings in the Preview. If you have updates set to automatically download and install, there isn't much you'll need to do to have the patches applied.

dude.. the Features in that OS is mindblowing awesome, it puts a whole new Level to perspective on things.. even a better Performance in gaming and stuff.. but it makes it really awesome.. the qaulity is good as always.. i just like new things.. im tired of old things.. thats my style bud..

For me, I cannot get one of the updates (KB2863312) to install properly.

KB2863312 will "install", require a restart, but then Windows Update says that the install failed, and the update is offered again. Because it is an "important update", I have to prevent it from continuously retrying to install, by changing my Windows Update settings to "Download updates but let me choose whether to install them". Something's broken with it.

Anyone else have this problem?

The only issue I have is after the computer has been logged in for X amount of time.. usually a day, Browsing in firefox 22 will just stop working until I log off and back on.

Please fix search. It's completely broken. :\

You might wanna contact Microsoft, they're probably not reading Neowin comments. :-\

Actually they do.
MS is a frequent Neowin visitor. There's MS employees here too (even if they don't let us know)

Yes, and the updates really helped. (Not!) Before the updates, Flight Simulator X would start up, but would crash when the main "lobby" showed up. Now FSX won't even start, period.

It sounds like this has pi**ed you off, almost like you went ahead and updated your primary system to a preview build of 8.1 and didn't expect issues (maybe you did, but still installing on a primary system when there are so many VM apps flying about).

Are these the same updates as were out last week or new ones? There was a batch after I installed the preview last week.

It's a new set.

Hardly the "first batch of updates" then, I definitely had 5 or 6 last week

For the Surface, last week I got a firmware update, search improvements, and speed improvements for the system. Then the String of Windows Defender Updates. Yesterday, I got 5 updates, but they didn't fix the view updates in pc settings bug. Or the bug when you click on the user tile and click on it again and the background stays highlighted, or the all apps view aligning off the page.
