First Battlefield 3 details announced, teaser trailer out

With the launch of the official website for Electronic Arts and DICE's Battlefield 3, the first details have started to trickle forth on the highly-anticipated title. So far, it appears that the game is shaping up to be a successful sequel to Battlefield 2.

"Beyond our signature multiplayer, we have also included a full single-player campaign and a co-op campaign," reads the new post on the blog. "As for fan favorite features, how does the return of jets, prone, and 64-player multiplayer (on PC) sound?"

According to Game Informer, which has an upcoming cover story within its latest magazine, the new Frostbite 2 engine packs features like "deferred rendering, real-time radiosity, a new animation system borrowed from the EA Sports label, and an exponential leap in destructibility," while Battlefield 3 Executive Producer Patrick Bach claims that this new engine is "the best piece of technology on the market when it comes to building games."

The game's story will see you play as the US Marines as you travel to such locations as Paris, Tehran, and New York as you move around "claustrophobic streets, metropolitan downtowns, and open, vehicle-friendly landscapes as you fight your way through the war of tomorrow."

Battlefield 3 is set to hit store shelves release this fall for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC. For those interested in securing a copy of the game, a limited edition copy of Battlefield 3 is already available for pre-order.

Be sure to check out the teaser trailer for the shooter below.

I adore Battlefield 2 still.. such a great game. Can't wait to see what this is like though I think my crummy PC is going to need a serious upgrade before I can go near it!

AWESOME, been a fan of the battlefield franchise since BF1942 got them all, and I play BC2 alot online (best online game atm IMO, BOps can do one) cant wait for this, and having jets and proning again will be awesome yet annoying. Just hope people cant run prone and shoot like you get on BOps and use to get on BF2.

I don't know how people can play these war game first person shooters anymore. They're just the same game rehashed over and over.

Anyone else worried that it becomes a Call of Duty competitor rather than a pure Battlefield 2 successor?

Nah that's what MoH was meant to be and failed miserably. This is Dice back on home turf ignoring the fact that other FPS's even exist and just making their own game the way it should be made.

Thoughts:
-Terminator?
-Nice teaser trailer
-Not sure why some people were expecting an exposition in what's clearly labeled a teaser.
-Speaking of which, this revealed revealed enough. For one thing, jets return, which if anyone remembers what they were in BF2, is probably a big enough deal to warrant its own trailer. .

YESSSSSS. The

"how does 64 man multiplayer line including jets..." line made my day.

That right there shows DICE has truly been listening. KEEP IT UP DICE, I WANT this game to be my next clan/dedicated PC game. I will bring my clan back online for this game!

PRE ORDERED!

Hope the server rentals are cheap and EA/DICE monitor how they are run. I love BF2 but stopped playing cause I ran out of good servers to play on that weren't managed by some kids or power hungry wannabe punks. Also if its good right out the box but has a few flaws then by all means patch it but don't listen to the constant complaints by those that get owned by a few weapons on some blogs and change crap like they did with BF2.

Was Battlefield 1 or 2 as good as this seems like it will be ?

Battlefield 2 IS.STILL.THE.BEST fps multiplayer game available. It has a tactic depth you won't find in today's gimmicky games. And it has aged extremely well, doesn't feel old.

BOps was great, but I honestly feel it was a step backwards from MW2. If they nail this just right I'll bet they will get players back.

If this is as good as BF2 was back in the day, it will probably be one of the next multiplayer games I buy (after Portal 2). CoD series is okay, but the multiplayer is just not nearly as fun IMHO. BF2 on the other hand was tons of fun, plus it might get my father back into computer games (he loves BF2, but he gave up on it after all the issues of trying to play it on Windows 7 back when 7 released).

nothing compared to Black Ops. Battlefield used to be my favorite, then Modern Warfare 2 came out, now CoD wins hands down.

How can you compare a unreleased game with no solid info to black ops?

CoD MW2 is the biggest waste of money I have ever spent. I didn't even bother with BO and will never bother with another CoD title.

I actually flipped the other way around. Tried BF1942, was neutral towards it. However, I was hooked on CoD since the first PC release. By MW2, it got really old. I also missed the tactical feel of Ghost Recon, and BC2 seems to be the perfect niche of the various FPS styles that I like. Therefore, I am looking forward to BF3 to continue in this vein. Like in BC2 how I never fly choppers, I'll stay away from jets. Just gimme my engies and tanks, and I'm golden.

This has no connection to BC2. This is the REAL Battlefield

I've played all Battlefields, and this is the real deal! BC was just comedy.

BC just sucked.

*Take a step*, *Shoot once*, *Cinematic*... Lather, rinse, annnnd... Repeat.

Exactly my point. I only play sorry games for easy achievements.

Wow.. Wonder who it was that made that useless teaser.

It's called a teaser for a reason. They never reveal much.

I wonder if the iconic soundtrack will be back.

That noisy music IS the iconic theme, but sounds too much like Crysis or shallow action games of the like. I'm worried if that music sets the tone for the game.
