First Battlefield 3 details announced, teaser trailer out

With the launch of the official website for Electronic Arts and DICE's Battlefield 3, the first details have started to trickle forth on the highly-anticipated title. So far, it appears that the game is shaping up to be a successful sequel to Battlefield 2.

"Beyond our signature multiplayer, we have also included a full single-player campaign and a co-op campaign," reads the new post on the blog. "As for fan favorite features, how does the return of jets, prone, and 64-player multiplayer (on PC) sound?"

According to Game Informer, which has an upcoming cover story within its latest magazine, the new Frostbite 2 engine packs features like "deferred rendering, real-time radiosity, a new animation system borrowed from the EA Sports label, and an exponential leap in destructibility," while Battlefield 3 Executive Producer Patrick Bach claims that this new engine is "the best piece of technology on the market when it comes to building games."

The game's story will see you play as the US Marines as you travel to such locations as Paris, Tehran, and New York as you move around "claustrophobic streets, metropolitan downtowns, and open, vehicle-friendly landscapes as you fight your way through the war of tomorrow."

Battlefield 3 is set to hit store shelves release this fall for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC. For those interested in securing a copy of the game, a limited edition copy of Battlefield 3 is already available for pre-order.

"how does 64 man multiplayer line including jets..." line made my day.

That right there shows DICE has truly been listening. KEEP IT UP DICE, I WANT this game to be my next clan/dedicated PC game. I will bring my clan back online for this game!

-Nice teaser trailer
-Not sure why some people were expecting an exposition in what's clearly labeled a teaser.
-Speaking of which, this revealed revealed enough. For one thing, jets return, which if anyone remembers what they were in BF2, is probably a big enough deal to warrant its own trailer. .

Anyone else worried that it becomes a Call of Duty competitor rather than a pure Battlefield 2 successor?

Nah that's what MoH was meant to be and failed miserably. This is Dice back on home turf ignoring the fact that other FPS's even exist and just making their own game the way it should be made.

I don't know how people can play these war game first person shooters anymore. They're just the same game rehashed over and over.

AWESOME, been a fan of the battlefield franchise since BF1942 got them all, and I play BC2 alot online (best online game atm IMO, BOps can do one) cant wait for this, and having jets and proning again will be awesome yet annoying. Just hope people cant run prone and shoot like you get on BOps and use to get on BF2.

I adore Battlefield 2 still.. such a great game. Can't wait to see what this is like though I think my crummy PC is going to need a serious upgrade before I can go near it!
