First Surface Pro commercial shown at Las Vegas launch event [Update]

Navigate to the 5:00 or 11:08 mark to see the new Surface Pro commercial.

Microsoft's new Surface Pro commercial will first officially air on television during tonight's Grammy Awards, but attendees of the company's Las Vegas Fashion Show Mall launch party for the tablet got to see the advertisement a day early.

The commercial, which was directed by Jon M. Chu (who directed the Surface with Windows RT commercial and is the director of the upcoming "G.I. Joe: Retaliation" film), primarily showcases the fact that the tablet has a full-sized USB port and features a pen digitizer. Much like Chu's first Surface commercial, the ad features choreographed dancing with the tablet.

Microsoft had planned a similar launch event in New York City, but those plans were scrapped because of the severe snow storm that hit the New England region. The Surface Pro tablet was released Saturday to supply issues, as stores around the U.S. were given small quantities of the tablet, with some Best Buy locations even receiving just one or two. Despite the lack of supply, several stores have seen long lines for the tablet.

Microsoft has yet to release the commercial on its YouTube page. When it does, this post will be updated.

Update: Microsoft has uploaded the commercial to their YouTube page, and it can now be seen below.

Yes, pretty neat stuff for getting work done. If you have a sharp eye, at 0:39.1228 you can see a Hyper-V enabled Opensuse 12 virtual machine!

Looks like the usual consumer-type (cutesy) themes, more suitable for an expensive or adult toy. It seems that Surface was never designed to be used in a traditional office setting doing "office type" work,i.e., data entry. If it were, there would have been some "productivity" themed commercials a long time ago. Oh well.

I LOVE IT!

For the whiners, this is just meant to be a fun launch ad... they will obviously have other ads that showcase the features and minimalistic ads like they had for Surface RT... this is just for fun and gaining hype like the Surface RT had... and I love how they kept the same actors/dancers but in a cool office setting to keep the momentum

I'd give it an 7/10. I liked the dancing and the entertainment but I think they could of done better at demonstrating what the devices features, and what it can do. I can see some people looking at this and not having a clue because they were distracted by all the dancing.

How about this for an advert: five people each with a surafce, the first says I can run CS6 photoshop, the next says I can run CS6 Flash,. the next says I can run Visual Studio... etc. MS should point out what its product can do.

But the iPod was just for music. I guess it was a little more relevant while still being strange.

Yeah but you could argue that the surface is for business and entertainment...the people in the ad are in business attire and doing entertaining stuff

I want to see ads where they show Desktop apps, USB connectivity, the USB charger on the power brick, showing multi monitor displays, and both the touch and type covers. By the end of the commercial, a consumer should be confident that this is an entire laptop replacement with the portability of a tablet.

Then wait for the feature ads like Surface RT had... they release various ads for different purposes... this one is a momentum/fun ad. There were be other ads. I hate how some of you are so boring. This ad is great and fun!

Please don't hold your breath. If the Surface could do what you are seeking, Microsoft would have had commercials pitching those features a long time ago.

The problem with the ad is that it's mostly about dancing than it is about Surface Pro. To me the ad says "Buy this tablet and you'll dance like these people!".

WOOOO I Learned absolutly nothing by watching that commercial. Way go to microsoft. Instead of advertising a clickable keyboard at least you showed a pen that comes WITH the tablet.

Everyone has seen these commercials but I always have to reference, you know that commercial where they are clicking the keyboard back in forth? That right there is a failure.

This reminds me of Ancorman, LOUD NOISES LOUD NOISES!

what I learned from this ad:
1. It's a tablet
2. with a keyboard
3. with touch screen
4. have a digital pen
5. have MS Office
6. have USB port
6. it's for business also
7. it's cool
8. I must go to microsoft.com to learn more
0. stfu and take my money
