From The Forums: Metro2 for Superbar

We have a lot of creative folks who are members of Neowin's forum community. A couple of weeks ago, we put the spotlight on one of them, "BoneyardBrew", when he released a Windows 8 Metro skin for the Steam client. Today, we want to recognize another Neowin forum member, "zainadeel", for his creation of Metro2 for Superbar.

The collection, which can be downloaded over at DeviantArt.com, has over 100 icons that you can install and use for Windows 7's "superbar", also known as the taskbar, that all have a Metro art style influence. Some of the icons include Internet Explorer (both 9 and 10), Firefox, Opera, Chrome, Skype, Zune, iTunes and many more familiar PC programs.

"zainadeel" has quite a few PC art projects he has created. One of them is an image that is supposed to be his version of a Windows 8 Start screen (note the Neowin logo to the right). Hopefully he will continue to work on his PC icon and other artwork in the coming months and continue to give some artistic shout outs to Neowin in the process. Got something you want to share? Let us know.

Not yet released, but here is a Windows explorer clone with a metro looking UI I'm working on:

A metro Windows Explorer definitely wouldn't look like that. I'd imagine something more along the lines of a mixture between Office 15 and Zune.

The 32x32 doesn't help, they look pixalated and horrible for me. Even with the taskbar on small, they don't look right.

Actually scratch that, they look alright on full sized taskbar, but don't look right on small sized, hopefully they get developed for a bigger size soon, but thanks for the post!

they are for the default sized taskbar. (the smaller size is just too small)

And these icons are all Vector it will take me ages to release bigger versions that's why I didn't choose to. Come High res displays when Win8 is around the corner I will release a better pack

Ahh right, but great work none the less. Just set it up and changed the taskbar and love them! Thank you.

I gotta say I'm not impressed by Metro designs or the icons. All that this really is, is taking the company or application logo, turning it white then putting it on a coloured square. It doesn't look that great to me, just basic and bland.

And I don't mean any offence to Zain I know he is only following Microsofts design language it is them that have thrust this on us not him. He has done an accurate portrayal of Metro with these icons.

hey Thank u so much John Callaham.

Specially for adding in the Start Screen mockup. (and that isn't how I want windows 8 to be. I actually want it to be like WP7, simpler than it currently is. (its just a personal joke of mine as how Apple would've designed the start screen )

Even still, that mockup is downright sexy! Your work is always impressive, man!

Hey! I posted that! These icons sure are pretty tho. Why can't W8 devs do the same?

Windows 8 automatically changing all Desktop application's icons to Metro style? Now that would cause a lot of hate..
