Galaxy Nexus may be released around Black Friday

Black Friday here in the US is the day after Thanksgiving where retailers have ultra-low prices on a variety of items in order to jump start the holiday shopping season. Now, a new rumor at Droid-Life claims that the highly anticipated Galaxy Nexus smartphone could go on sale the week of or just after Black Friday, which happens this year on November 25.

The story cites a leaked product roadmap from the phone's wireless carrier Verizon, which shows the Galaxy Nexus as being released sometime after Black Friday although its possible that the Samsung-made phone could launch beforehand. Of course, the phone will be the first to have Google's Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) operating system.

While the phone could be available for sale around Black Friday, don't expect any deep price cuts from Verizon. The phone is slated to get a $299.99 price point so there will likely be no getting up at midnight or 4 am in order to get a cheaper price.

Verizon is going to have a ton of new Android-based phones available for sale during the holiday season, including the Motorola RAZR (also priced at $299.99) and the HTC Rezound. With all of those exclusive phones, plus Apple's iPhone 4S still selling out, Verizon's revenue numbers could be in for a big revenue push by the time the holiday season is over.

ill be getting the htc vigor aka rezound as soon as one hits craigslist.

I always wondered who would buy that phone when the Galaxy Nexus is going to be available shortly.

Now let me ask the why would you choose the Rezound over the Nexus? Are you falling for the marketing hype of beats? Do you prefer the older generation processor?

the cpu in the rezound is not older tech. it will be a dual core clocked at 1.5ghz compared to the nexus at 1.2ghz. plus the fact htc makes better phones with faster support. the nexus is nice but it's not for me.

I knew you would write that. That's why I worded it the way I did. Now do you think a Core i3 2.8GHz processor is better than a second generation Core i3 2.6GHz. Why am I even asking? Of course you do. Now go do your reshearch buddy. See why Motorola and Samsung are going with OMAP processors.

Also faster support? Hmm, do we not know what a Nexus is? I'm sure you'll have Ice Cream Sandwich by Q3 next year. Now that is fast support.

Black Friday is not the biggest shopping day of the year as far as I know.

Of course it is. You can go anywhere on that day? What do you consider the biggest day? (I'm preparing my laughter).
