Bad news today for the gaming community. The german government institution BPjS which tasks are to:
Prohibit, punishment-reinforced, youth-endangering media on request by youth ministers and their offices so that these are only accessible by adults, not however by children (by definition <18)
    Promotion of worth-oriented media education
Sensitization of the public for problems of the youth media protection
now has added Unreal Tournament and Return To Castle Wolfenstein to the index list. This implies that public sale (even on Ebay or similiar), promotion/advertisement and reporting about these titles is prohibited by law.
To prevent indexing of RtCW the german localization of this title received substantial changes by Activision Germany.
E.g. all names of depicted persons were changed and all german 3rd reich insignia have been removed. Additionally the germans and the whole plot were turned into a fanatical sect named The Wolfs aiming to rule the world by dark powers.
As if such a downturn of a splendid action title was not enough due to the sales prohibition retailers will remove any quantities from stock because these represent dead money.

Due to the risk of their titles being indexed most game developers have switched to a drastic localization tactic to guarantee those games a long shelf life. This implies though that mostly no english version makes it to the german market (action titles mostly).

I was in Germany last summer and must say that I am quite surprised they are not allowing these games, especially UT. Furthermore, by allowing RtCW they are given the chance to move on from the atrocities of the war. But like the US, Germany has a strong-rooted warez community. My friend (in Germany) gets all his games that way. He has UT and looks forward to getting RtCW.

Germany does have an incredibly strong warez community, that is for sure. This is still a sad day for gamers though. And a sad day esp. for [german] gamers

well it aint a big deal that RtCW is banned. I am well disappointed in the length of the game. I completed it within 2 days of buying it, and no i wasnt on it all day for both days. The game is ok but far to short, also i think the multiplayer is rubbish, Team Fortress clone anyone. I do have to admit that multiplayer is fast, but i was bored after 10 minutes. Counter-strike rules. Anyway RtCW is poor in respect to game length, and replayability for me is near zero. I aint playing it again cus it aint that good in that respect. Stick Half life on me computer and i can play that over and over cus its good. Anyway thats my opinion. P.S. ive had a bad day, dont know if youve noticed
