You can now download Counter-Strike 1.4 beta over at CS-Nation.

"Yes, Counter-Strike 1.4 BETA is now publically available. They are both TEST VERSIONS and shall be treated as such. CS-Nation takes absolutely no responsibility for this key generator. We know it's official, but it has not been 100% released to the public. This is the first major exposure that this keygen will get. Two folks from Valve have said that it's perfectly okay for us to post this, so I assume it's safe and dandy."

Do not download these files if you do not have broadband. This content delivery is designed for broadband; downloading the entire game on a 56k each time you want to play CS 1.4 is not a fun thing.
 • First download the setup. Install this program and whatnot. After installing, you have to choose where to place the cache folder. Finally you'll get to a login screen. Click on create account and enter in your e-mail address.
 • Download the keygen file. Run the program and enter in your e-mail address. You'll get a key. This will be your "Special Offer Key."
 • Go back to the create account page and type in your Special Offer Key. Enter in a password and you're off!
 • "Subscribe" to Tracker and Counter-Strike, because they're both cool!

The message then goes on to describe the vulnerabilities the worm purports to correct.

The worm, written in Visual Basic, uses Microsoft Outlook and its own SMTP engine to spread. When Q216309.exe it creates two copies of itself, drops the component which uses Outlook and SMTP to spread, creates a Backdoor Trojan that opens port 12378, creates a data file that it uses to store all e-mail addresses it finds, and creates another component that searches for e-mail addresses from the Outlook Address Book and all addresses found in .htm, .html, .asp, and .php files. Once the final component has those e-mail addresses, it writes them to the data file.

Finnish security firm F-Secure Corp. said Wednesday that victims can get rid of the worm by deleting all its components from an infected system. It noted that if some components are locked while Windows is active, they have to be deleted from pure DOS or renamed with a different extension with immediate system restart.

Many anti-virus firms have already updated their virus definitions to detect the worm.

err i don't get this :/ "This content delivery is designed for broadband; downloading the entire game on a 56k each time you want to play CS 1.4 is not a fun thing." means we 56k'ers won't get to play 1.4 onwards ???

the content delivery system is meant to prevent people from stealing the files before it comes out. once you join for the first time it saves the game files in a cache and they can be reloaded easily next time you join a game.

Fu** CS there are so many better things . CS is unplayable because of all the cheaters anway. Go for DoD << that truely rocks or this Existence mod www.whatisexistence.com looks very good. It was inspired by the Matrix so U can buy weapons with ur mobile and have superjumps and stuff.

hmmmm, What he probably means is that only the beta will require you to do all the downloading every time you want to play. I am sure that the full game won't require you to redownload anything. Oh well, if I am wrong, I am sorry, but the majority of the cs gamers don't have DSL or Cable or T1, so they would definately lose ALOT of people if you have to redownload junk each time. I think I am gonna stick to 1.3. Radiation

the game is exactly the same as 1.3 except its has ace speccy stuff now, jumpings a bitch but u get used to it and it will come out as a patch, if you had to download it every time you wanted to play it then think of the servers serving the game :o

"Note that it's for broadband users only (won't be so for the final release) and is a beta, which means don't expect perfect anything" that means its only like this for the beta.

i tried it, it could not find any servers, and still crashed on exit :disappoin i think i will stick to RTCW

Just.... don't.... touch.... BETAs if you're not a fuckin' betatester... I dunno y they had to publicly release this, but it certainly does not serve the thing well.... All n00bs Shuttup! You just have to download it ONCE and then play (on what servers? They're all flooded to death due to the mass of 'beta-testers' that bitch about EVERYTHING b4 reading the damn faq, support forum and README!)
