Thanks DJ^TuRKiYe for pointing this out in the BPN forum.

If any of you are patch junkies like me, you'll be gobbling this up ASAP! Click the link below to head on over and download the goods.

Changes in v1.1:
 • Exception error after blue Rockstar load screen fixed.
 • Error loading saved games fixed.
 • Mouse sensitivity now saved with other settings (no changes made to existing settings).
 • Option for user to play audio files directly from hard disk. Copy the contents of the PLAY discs Audio directory into your installed Grand Theft Auto III Audio directory. Grand Theft Auto III still requires the presence of the PLAY disc when started. This may give better performance on some machines (though worse on others).
 • All protection checks (apart from needing PLAY disc to start) removed. Grand Theft Auto III still checks for the presence of the PLAY disc when initially started, and plays audio from the PLAY disc if not found on the hard disk (see above).

So far 15 makers have committed to making devices using Windows CE for Smart Displays, based on screens ranging from as small as six inches to as large as 15 inches. The devices are expected to range in price from about $500 (about £300) to $800 depending on screen size.

Microsoft said the devices will be available in North America and Asia in time for this year's holiday season and in Europe in the first half of next year. Initially Microsoft says it will offer support for five languages: English, French, German, Japanese and Korean.
well hopefully the freaking thing works now....
Well, if it wouldn't startup in the first place, this patch won't really help. If it was a graphical problem, this patch won't really help. And if it was a sound problem, well, this patch won't really help
hope it fixes my Nvidia problem
What NVIDIA problem?
That Nvidia problem was addressed in the games read-me file. u have to download a windows xp patch to fix it. in the read me file it gives u the direct link.
Ohhh! That! Yeah, the link is http://download.microsoft.com/download/whistler/Patch/Q306676/WXP/EN-US/Q306676_WXP_SP1_x86_ENU.exe I don't think that this problem will be solved in this patch, because the only way that this could be done, is by including the file from the Microsoft website. Rockstar can't have done this though, because the file from Microsoft is 3.02 Mb, and the Grand Theft Auto 3 v1.1 patch is only 1.05 Mb!

when will they fix the problem by having the game run slower than necessary by having the Replay constantly recording?
when will they fix the problem by having the game run slower than necessary by having the Replay constantly recording?
I agree there. I reckon only around 5% have ever used the feature, and only 1% use it regulary. I reckon the v1.2 patch should make it an option in the Settings/Options screen

The game just runs like total crap for me - I have to stick it down in 640x480 in 16 bit colour, and even then it struggles on some places in the second island. Specs are (dated I know.. but should be enough) : Abit KT7-RAID, Thunderbird 1.2GHz, 384MB RAM, Radeon 64MB DDR VIVO, SBLive!, 2x40GB 7200RPM IBM Drives, 1x15GB 7200RPM IBM Drive.. I just find it odd that it runs so badly - even new games run fine for me (Jedi Knight 2, Unreal Tournament 2003 leak - no problems in 1024x768x32bit on either of these games) Tempted to take the damn thing back and get my money back!

Basically all they have done is made a sort of official NoCD Patch (apart from the initial check), but I do admit the NoCD files I tried did help some of the problems I initially had, and they allowed you to play the audio from the HD also. So did they get the idea from there? hehe

i know, i've got more than the recommended in many areas but it still lags bad... i run it at 800x600x16, draw distance of 4 bars, lighting about halfway through, and all the other settings i've just left alone since turning them either on or off did no help... my specs are: 866 MHz P3 512 MB SD-RAM 128 MB Radeon 8500 LE (DDR-RAM) 8x DVD 60 GB Hard Drive Space (40 GB and 20 GB) DirectX 8.1 Windows XP i'll try getting rid of that replay feature... i never used it until last night when I accidentally hit F1...
