Just in time for the theatrical release of Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, Electronic Arts has today unleashed the video game of the same name on several platforms including the Xbox, GameCube, PlayStation 2, PC, Game Boy Advance, Game Boy Color and PlayStation. The games feature the characters from the movie, which is based on the second book in the Harry Potter series from author J.K. Rowling. The second book sees the continuing adventures of the young apprentice wizard, Harry Potter as he tries to make it through another year studying the arcane arts at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. The movie, game and book open with a terrible prediction from Dobby the house-elf that warns of great trials and tribulations for Harry should he attend a second year of studies. Unfortunately for our hero, the prediction comes true and Harry finds himself and his schoolmates in terrible danger.

2. New features added in 1.4
============================
  • Weapon Prediction enhancement for multiplayer games:
    - Hitscan weapons (such as Pistols, Light Machine Guns and Rifles) have been balanced for connection latency, leveling the playing field between those on modems and players with a faster connection. Additional checking ensures that people on fast connections don't get shot once they've already hidden themselves from a modem user.
  • Multiplayer Browser:
    - Server "Ping" text colors have been changed to yellow or white. This will help determine the servers that have enabled the Anti-lag weapon prediction enhancement.
White "Ping" servers mean that Anti
  • lag weapon prediction is ON.
Yellow "Ping" servers means that Anti
  • lag weapon prediction is OFF.
  • Filter Servers Button:
    - Allows players to sort Anti-lag servers via a filter option. Players can now toggle the "Show Antilag" field to: Both, Yes, or No.
Both - Shows servers ALL servers regardless of Anti-lag settings.
Yes - Shows only servers with Anti-lag weapon prediction set to "1" which is on.
No - Shows only servers with Anti-lag weapon prediction set to "0" which is off.
  • In-Game Options Menu:
    - Now has a Server Info button that gives you the current settings of Anti-lag within your game. This gives players an in-game method of determining whether Weapon Prediction is on/off.
  • New PunkBuster commands for improved admin control
  • Improved speed for AutoDownload feature
  • Added "Auto-Reload" option, selectable in the menu or the Cvar command cg_autoReload
  • Added ability to add web links for users to get more information about mods, maps, and servers
  • Added voting configuration
  • Added in-game server info in options menu:
    - Go to mod URL: Should point to the homepage of the mod (if provided).
    - Go to server URL: Should point to the homepage for the game server.
NOTE: By clicking on the "Go to server URL" button, you will exit your current Wolfenstein session.
  • The server info popup and the server connection error diagnostic screen show quick jump buttons to those URLs if defined.
  • Improved Message of the Day (MOTD) support
  • Added team based max lives
  • listmaxlivesip (debug console command) - Prints the current list of clients who's IP's are being enforced with maxlives.

Linux client:
  • using libGL.so.1 for conformance to LSB
    see LSB 1.2 spec: http://www.linuxbase.org/spec/refspecs/LSB_1.2.0/gLSB/libgl.html
  • added sub-frame timing of key/mouse events (improves controls response at low fps) toggled by the in_subframe cvar
Suse 8.1 users are advised to set in_subframe to 0 if their mouse is not working
  • fxed Ctrl+Space in keyboard code
  • added in_nograb cvar for mod developers. Run the client in windowed mode with in_nograb 1 to avoid having mouse pointer and keyboard locked by RTCW on breakpoints

why when they post something about harry potter does people start this whole dilusion of it being evil? Harry Potter is no more evil than Lord of the Rings. They ban Harry Potter from schools because they say it teaches our kids to be whitches. I say, teach your kids the difference between fantasy and reality. We hand our kids the bible when they are practically born. Isnt that evil? The bible defines every aspect of evil. Thats what i think is horrible. Some schools are getting back at these people who say its evil by banning the Harry Potter books along with the bible. Way to go!! Anyone who believes this to be witchcraft has a problem of taking things that they are told by morons at face value.

mmh, I sense a lot of anger. Anyway, the big difference between LOTR and HP is the target audience. HP is targeted at kids while LOTR at older people. LOTR is good vs evil, how is that the case in HP? HP teaches it's okay to lie, cast spells and dabble in witchcraft, communicate with the dead.... Yous should very carefully examine your defination of right and wrong, or do you subscribe to the "no absolute truth" tribe?

HP is good vs. evil just as much as LOTR is. HP is really nothing more than a boy trying to defeat his troubles in life that just has an interesting history to make the story more interesting. I"m with Justinprice. If your so worried about it before you let kids read it explain to them the difference between reality and fantasy. Unless your just plain lazy you should do this for your child. And if you haven't read HP yet don't comment. It's like not voting and complaining about who won the election.

I have to agree, my ex got all over me for showing my boys HP. Her comment is it's "witchcraft cleverly disguised". I just about lost it. Told her that a box falling over is not a ghost, a psycho drinking blood is not a Vampire, people who chant by a kettle are not witches. They are all losers with a delusion of being something they are not. And that if she believes in ghost, gobblins, vampires and witches, then she needs just as much help as the rest of the lunatics. I also find it very weak that she hides behind "religion" to say it's "witchcraft".

My wif3es mom kicks her out on the street and then goes and smokes weed in the garage with her son. People can be so stupid!! And tmaxtrigger, you dont know what you are talking about.

Whats funny is that people still believe that witchcraft is real!! Adults also. If witchcraft was real i think it would have a much larger impact on uh.. well.. the world!!

this thread is just one more reason to trash the religions, religions just implant fears like "witchcraft illusions" in the brain of poeple
#9 tmaxxtigger on 07 Nov 2002 - 13:02
Wow, you are all blinded! The idea of these movies is to de-sensitize people to such things! Have you every heard of a wiccan? They are modern day witches, do a little research and you'll be quite surprised to find witchcraft alive and well this day, don't be fooled! Go a search on google for wiccan....
#10 justinprice on 07 Nov 2002 - 21:56
no tmaxxtrigger, the world is filled with people who believe that witchcraft is real, but that doesnt make it real. Quit taking things at face value. Pick up a book sometime by Carl Sagan called "Demon Haunted World, Science as a candle in the dark." Maybe this could possibly clear some things up for you man.

Good witch bad witch? Who cares, yes wiccan is a religion. Big hairy deal, so is devil worship and christianity. It's only a belief, I have cousins who practice the wiccan whatever you want to call it, yet I still can't get any of them to fly on a broom for me. Never seen it, never will...... Except in MOVIES... You know what a movie is right? A Make-believe story to entertain our minds.... Not to brain wash us. Otherwise we'd believe in men who are spiders, come from krypton and we are currently surrounded by aliens..... Get a grip, just because someone can believe they are a witch doesn't make them one. Ever take a trip to the pshyc-ward? You should see what those folks believe themselves to be.....

Harry Potter does not even come close to Lord of the Rings. Just watch the next South Park, they dress up as LOTR characters then diss the other kids dressing up as Harry Potter characters.
