Sony Computer Entertainment (SCE) has sold nearly 600,000 Network Adapters for its PlayStation 2 console. In Japan the company has shipped close to 200,000 units, while in the United States about 400,000 customers purchased a kit to play online. The package consists of a modem adapter, a hard disk drive and software required for online multiplaying.

The seemingly low demand for the kit in Sony's native country is the result of only one online game, Final Fantasy XI, being available to Japanese customers. U.S. PlayStation 2-owners can choose from over a dozen sports and shooting games. Japanese gamers, on the other hand, have access to Websites offering downloadable mini-games and new game characters or weapons to be used in existing games. SCE will publish a PlayStation 2 version of its popular massively multiplayer online role-playing PC game EverQuest early next year.

All of a sudden, there is a lot of activity in the Taiwanese OEM sector, centred around MS Smartphone 2002. This may provide some of the explanation for the spat between Sendo, the trailblazing UK designer of the aborted z100 smartphone, and its supposed sponsor Microsoft. In November, Sendo scrapped the phone days from launch and on 23 December it confirmed that it had filed suit in the US, accusing Microsoft of stealing its technology and customers and passing them on to low-cost Taiwanese manufacturers."

[neoquote=#2.0 by iraklis2000]more importanlty, what are the "over a dozen" PS2 online games available online?[/neoquote] Yea I wanna know what these "Dozen" games are? I bought a Network Adapter a few weeks ago so I could get Twisted Metal: Black Online. I am only aware of a handful of games, namely: Twisted Metal: Black Online, Madden 2003, ATV Offroad Fury, Socom & Tribes...

that's 7 games, where are the other 5. They said over a dozen. Using this fuzzy math they probably not only counted the number of adapters they sold wrong, but they also don't know what is included in the adapter. No HD last time I checked......

Plus All-star Baseball 2004 isn't even out yet... Gamespy needs to get their information straight...PLUS, whats even worse is that a VIDEO GAME website got information wrong about the BIGGEST console on the market...sad...just plain sad...

wise choice...just look at the upcoming XBOX titles, and XBOX Live service. I sold my PS2, and I am an extremely happy XBOX owner now. i got bored of GT3, and never liked GTA3, and therefore had no other reason to keep my PS2. ir was fun while it lasted, but the titles for the XBOX are a lot more my style.

Hope to include Gran Turismo 4 into online gaming...downloadable cars and tracks. It has to be broadband connection in order to get the best of online gaming anyway.

This is directed at Jago..... "**cough**FANBOY**cough**...get lost buddy! No one asked for your ignorant FANBOY comments!!! " HE obviously does. Maybe his home entertainment center is set up that the back of the console is visible...Are you the fashion police? As long as it looks good to you, it should be good for everyone else too? Get lost.
