Thanks Jean-Martin A. Nintendo confirmed to IGNcube today that beginning February 9 and running through May of this year, consumers who buy a GameCube for $149.99 at participating retailers will get a free game with the system courtesy of the company.
Buyers will be able to choose from four games, including: Metroid Prime, Resident Evil 0, Star Fox Adventures or Mario Party 4.

"It's an exciting program," said Nintendo of America's vice president of marketing and corporate affairs Perrin Kaplan. "It's a great opportunity come February for consumers to get their hands on the games that keep the folks at IGN up at night: Metroid Prime, Mario Party, Star Fox Adventures and Resdident Evil 0."

The more aggressive move by Nintendo could provide an extended boost to holiday sales of GameCube, which were solid, but noticeably behind a larger spike in demand for Microsoft's Xbox console.

This is good news, cause I'll be buying a GameCube soon, thanks to the lovely Zelda. Why the hell is the GameCube's initials GCN???

[neoquote=#4.0 by [EvilBeAr]]Game Cube Nintendo = GCN?[/neoquote] Well...DUH!!! j/k That part was obvious, but what we don't get is why they chose "GCN" instead of "NGC".

My only logic with the acronym, as that all other modern consoles use three letter acronyms, (save only the dreamcast), all of which only have the console name in it, not the company. xbx, psx, ps2 However the Nintendo 64 did have the N in front, although it was the actual name of the console.

as in N64, as with PSX playstation where does the X come into play?
#6.2 daveS on 19 Jan 2003 - 17:57
psx was the dev codename for the console

I'm tired of paying top dollar for these things, and a year later, prices get slashed. I am never buying a video game system the year it was released again... I paid $100 for the GBA and $200 for the GC. I'm gona go back to buying used electronics...

It's kind of a given that with a products life-cycle that the price is going to be dropped. It's gonna happen with ANY product...not just game consoles.

Why is Sony still developing Gran Turismo games or why does Capcom still develop Mega Man/Rockman games? That's an easy question to answer...BECAUSE THEY MAKE MONEY!!! Mario is one of the MOST RECOGNIZED characters in the video game industry...Nintendo was the company that saved the video game industry back in the Mid-80's. Last time I checked Nintendo was doing fine and was on par with Xbox is sales in the U.S. Personally I could really care less about the sales numbers in the U.K. b/c I don't live there. I also follow the sales numbers Japan b/c it seems to set the trends and shapes the future of the gaming industry.
The battle is the xbox n ps2....... the cube is flopping...cant u ppl see that?
Are you a fanboy by any chance? I bet you are... I'm not trying to start a flame war or anything, just trying to say that the previous statement in question has TONS of flaws...
