HomeLAN has more information on the closings of both Westwood Studios and EA Pacific as announced by Electronic Arts earlier today. EA's Vice-President of Corporate Communications Jeff Brown told HomeLAN this evening in a phone interview that the new consolidated Los Angeles EA studio (which currently handles the Medal of Honor series) will be the new development home for the Command and Conquer franchise.

Most of the C&C: Generals team will be moved to the new LA studio and Brown said there are still plans for new C&C titles in the future.

For players of Westwood's massively multiplayer RPG Earth and Beyond, Brown told HomeLAN that the game's servers and support will be moved to EA's Redwood Shores, CA studios (where Motor City Online is based) in about a month after the closing of Westwood's Las Vegas offices. The transition should be seemless for players, according to Brown. Brown stated that Earth and Beyond's subscriber base is growing and that EA still plans to support the game.

The new LA studio will be moved into a new building this summer, according to Brown, and will have 200 employees at first but Brown told HomeLAN that EA plans to hire as many as 300 more people for the new EALA studio over the next several years.

I saw this coming ever since Tiberian sun... And then Red alert 2.. Renegade... Emperror of dune... After Red alert 1, westwood became a silly flapjack bakery..

It didn't feel the same when EA bought Westwood. I would have to say the original Command and Conquer and Red Alert 1 are my favorite. They kind of went down hill after that. I don't know about other people but Red Alert 2 looked like a cartoon to me.

I still think they produce pretty good games, but theres no deniying the original feel and excitement that RA 1, C&C, and hell for those that were around at the time Dune2, the feel that they produced when playing the game just isnt there anymore, but I still contend the games are alright to fill in time and mess around with a bit. I guess thats the thing, I always complain about Blizzard taking their time with their games like Warcraft etc, how long did it take em to get WCIII going. But the thing is there has only ever been 3 warcrafts not counting expansions where as the whole Westwood command and conquer type thing C&C C&C: Tiberium Sun RA RA2 Dune 2000 They were all moddeled on the same style game play virtually hell even Emperor was, except it was 3D How many times can we expect to enjoy the same old gameplay?

i was so scared when i saw the heading... i thought it meant they'd close it completely... phew yeah i agree Tib Dawn and RA1 were the best CNCs, the others were too easy and superficial really, especially RA2 well generals looks good
