If you've never seen the original 1969 film "The Italian Job" it's a blast! Rent it if you can!

Michael Cane starred in the tale of a bunch of crooks who steal a whole load of gold, and using Mini Coopers, they are intent on transporting the gold out of an Italian city crippled by traffic lights on the fritz, with some of the best driving scenes and car stunts of it's time in good olde Mini's!

The moderm day version, "The Italian Job" is about mastermind thief Charlie Croker (played by Mark Wahlberg), who pulls off an amazing gold bullion heist from a heavily guarded palazzo in Venice, Italy, only to be double-crossed by one of his crew, Steve (Edward Norton).

Seeking revenge, Charlie recruits Stella (Charlize Theron), a beautiful nerves-of-steel safe cracker. Together with his former gang, Charlie and Stella follow the backstabber to California where they plan to re-steal the gold by manipulating traffic signals and creating havoc on the streets of Los Angeles.

With the remake of this classic 1969 film, Paramount is planning on using state-of-the-art chase scenes on sidewalks and through subways in the new Mini Cooper to revamp this old classic.

Eidos have today been signed to produce a video game based on the film "The Italian Job". The film is scheduled for a May/June 2003 release, Eidos is aiming to benefit from the film's marketing and success by releasing the game around the theatrical window.

As Mike McGarvey, ceo of Eidos says "'The Italian Job' is a very strong property and has all the elements that will enable us to produce a great game." The film is widely anticipated to be one of this year's biggest movies.

Didn't someone already make an Italian Job game? Rockstar?

I guess The Italian Job (from SCi/Rockstar) was the game for the original movie(starring Michael Caine), while this one is the official game for the upcoming remake of the movie(starring Mark Wahlberg)..

I love this old classic, although the game by Rockstar sucked bad, have to agree with Fil, the new mini isn't a mini in the real sense, longer wheel base etc. Look's like hollywood are gonna butcher another classic movie! :disappoin

Nope, and the "S" version looks like poop. I'd never even consider taking a new one out for a rally run, but that's what the old ones were meant for. Sort of

I played the first IJ game, the PC port. It was mediocricy at it's most/least spectacular, utterly utterly average. Not convienced about a new movie ... Mark Walhberg is an OK actor but he's no Micheal Caine, both in talent and in cheek/style needed for this sort of movie. Having said that, I can't think of anyone better but that doesn't mean he should get the part. Ed Norton is a brilliant actor but (according to the IMDb) he's against this movie and is only being in it due to contract requirements. Not a good sign when a star of a movie basically says it sucks! Another upcoming classic remake is The Alamo. I mention this because I heard about both remakes at about the same time and both my immediate reaction and my more considered reaction was similar for both movies - dear god no! If anything, the Alamo is shaping up to be even worse. A number of good talents have been connected but have left - Ron Howard to direct, Russell Crowe to star, then Viggo Mortensen (Aragorn, LoTR) to star ... all gone.

the IJ was worse than that, absolutely rubbish, complete tripe, looks like something made in 1997

I don't think it was that bad. I'm a sucker for free roaming cities so I guess that gave it a few more marks in my book. The missions were OK. Biggest problem is that they spent about 10 minutes porting it to the PC so the controls where bad and the graphics sucked.
