- I just dont see this taking off in Australia Australia just doesnt have the Broadband infrastricture required for MS to make money of this thing.

- I agree, you would think that Microsoft being the rich company they are could open a Cable or DSL ISP here in australia that would have unlimited downloads for a good (cheap) price, force some competition... right now Telstra and optus own everyone..

why not? 50% of my friends have got cable. and xbox game uses an average of 10MB per hour, i don't see any problems.
btw, i'm looking forward for ps2 online tho.

- In the major citites were the larger part of broadband is located, dialup is still dominating usage So how the hell is this gonna be profitable for them?? out say a 500,000 in canberra 125,000 might have the net 20,000 might use broadband and 3,000 might own xboxes how the hell is that market profitable?

- i have a friend that lives over there with broadband and he says alot of people have it and since all it only is a repackeged american version and they dont have any server there i dont see how they can loose money off it

Xbox Australia director Alan Bowman told Australian IT. Xbox Live would allow consumers to play video games with friends and strangers anywhere in the world.
All they need is an Xbox Live kit, which will go on sale for $99.95 in October, and a broadband internet connection such as ADSL or cable.
Mr Bowman said Microsoft would not host the games locally but instead connect customers to its Xbox servers in the US.
It appears Australia's new Xbox Live kits are really just repackaged American Xbox Live kits.
No servers in Australia will be provided, which is a little of a disappointment.
American Xbox Live kits can still be ordered from American and imported to Australia without any problems on Australian systems.
