Blizzard prepares for the worldwide launch of the expansion set on July 1, 2003

IRVINE, Calif. - MAY 29, 2003 - Blizzard Entertainment® announced today that Warcraft® III: The Frozen Throne™, the eagerly awaited expansion set to the fastest-selling PC game ever*, has gone gold. With initial orders of over 2.5 million copies, the game will be available at retail outlets worldwide in multiple languages beginning on July 1, 2003.

"We're very excited to announce that development on Warcraft III: The Frozen Throne has been completed," said Mike Morhaime, Blizzard Entertainment president and co-founder. "When we set out to create the next installment of the Warcraft series, we wanted to increase the strategic gameplay possibilities and depth of the Warcraft universe by introducing a wide array of new Heroes and units specifically designed to enhance each race. We're extremely proud of these new additions, and we look forward to sharing them with players."

Following in the tradition of previous Blizzard expansion sets, Warcraft III: The Frozen Throne provides gamers with a vast new chapter in the epic Warcraft saga. In the single-player campaign, players revisit the war-torn world of Azeroth. Several months have passed since Archimonde and the Burning Legion were defeated at the battle of Mount Hyjal, yet a new threat has arisen throughout the land.

Are there any new cinematics? Those are like the only thing I look forward to with Blizzard games.

personally i think the multiplayer is awsome. its not really rpg at all, all it is, is the heros you can give a few skills as they level.

@ #4, I stopped playing a long time ago (right after it was released) but while I was playing the beta (and final for a couple weeks), they made it so the heros had much more than just a few extra abilities. It was made so that you always had to pick a certain hero at the start or else you were complete toast. There were also times when you could level up you hero quickly and it would be nearly invincible against your enemy unless they had done the same. They ought to have made it so that you hero couldn't level up your heros past certain points unless you had tech'd up your buildings/units too.

Just so you know, there will be 2 new cinematics. One in the begining and one at the end. In between missions there will be normal cut scenes. There reason is that because of there being only they should be much better and maybe even longer than the four from the first game.

Umm there were more than 4 from WCIII.
    #9 Gary_Player on 01 Jun 2003 - 12:28
WCIII was well done and everything, all nice and pretty to look at and pretty fun to play...the only thing I didnt like was that it was pretty obvious that they had changed their gameplay ideas like 15 times because it didnt have the depth that the other games did...the story and visuals could be changed from gameplay to gameplay thats why theyre all so sweet but theres alot of stuff in the game play that just screams underprepared at you...hopefully the expansion pack will resolve those issues, add sommore depth to the game play...

oh, and more avalable units and upkeep that isnt such a nuisance

    sweet

i've been waiting for an expansion to war3 since i beat it. which was also before i bought it

notice i said "before i bought it", meaning i bought it... :p

damn these small emoticons. we need the ones from the forum in here.

ok, i'm done wandering around my brain looking for pointless thoughts to write...

i liked WC III a bit, but i found it a bit easy to beat (WC II was much harder) and frankly, it was the first blizzard game i ever played that couldn't quite measure up to some of its contempoaries (i enjoyed 'age of mythology' more than WC III).

that said, i'm still on board for the expansion anyways.

btw, isn't it about time someone drops $50 mil on the blizzard cinematics folks and asks them to create a feature length movie? their stuff usually is just awesome.
