Unreal Tournament 2003 did something new for an FPS game. Instead of releasing repetitive bonus packs and patches, the developers determined that the game's engine and gameplay were versatile enough to handle several renditions, so they decided to follow the sports game trend of adding the year to the end of the game's title. So, in theory, if UT2003 sold well, we'd be seeing another one just a year down the road.

Well guess what? UT2003 sold well and now Unreal Tournament 2004 is on the way. The developers of UT2004 don't want to split hairs with this game. It is still using the same engine and the majority of gameplay elements will be very familiar to players of the 2003 version. If you hated the first game, you'll probably hate this. Sorry, but that's how it is. That said, if you remotely enjoyed UT2003, Unreal Tournament 2004 is better in every single way. The new game adds everything from the already released bonus packs, as well as a ton of new maps, game modes, weapons, and vehicles. Did I say vehicles? You bet I did.

The biggest addition in UT2004 is a game mode called Onslaught. This team-based mode pits two sides against each other on a massive, war-torn landscape. The goal is decidedly similar to Battlefield 1942, wherein players must reach points located around each map, hold them for set amounts of time, and take control of them, thereby gaining the ability to spawn there. From then, the battle is about offense and defense, taking points and defending your own.

Changelog:
Diskeeper build 430 adds support for Windows Server 2003, and includes performance and reliability improvements to the boot-time defragmentation engines.

Please Note: On a small number of Windows XP systems, running a boot-time defragmentation may result in a Windows message being displayed after the post-defragmentation reboot indicating that the system did not start up properly. This is sometimes followed by a CHKDSK operation, which finds no disk errors. We are investigating the cause of this message, but at this time no system that has displayed this startup screen or run a post-defragmentation CHKDSK has demonstrated any problems. You can simply use the default "Start Windows Normally" option, or let the timer time-out. Your system will then boot up normally.

Also Note: The Diskeeper NTFS boot-time engines have been modified in this build to verify they have exclusive access to the volume being defragmented. This change ensures that no other drivers or services can modify the volume while the boot-time defragmentation is running. If the volume cannot be locked, an error message appears describing this and the boot-time defragmentation will not run.

#2.1 kairon on 16 Jul 2003 - 00:50
I have not had enough, and most of the other neowinians here share the same opinion. Maybe you shouldn't assume that because you don't like it, it makes and ass out of you and....

For the record I also hated it (oversized goofy looking players, big giant pills, spare me...), though I love the orginal UT and still play it all the time.

eating your words if you check the replies?

i wil not be buying this game, as i mentioned before it looks like it's turning into a EA Sports brand game.
#2.7 nookadum on 19 Jul 2003 - 16:10
And the EA Sports games are good.

WTF was wrong with UT2003? IMO, it was better than UT in A LOT of ways. Graphics, physics, and gameplay wise.

Probably one of the best deathmatching games ever.

It's what Windows 98 was to Windows 95, same look and feel with new features. I think it sounds really cool!
#4 fubarshibby on 16 Jul 2003 - 00:01
Shibby... I can't wait. I love this game... Although, the reality is that I barely play games anymore so I don't even know if I'll buy this either. Though, if I do, it'll probably be the only game I buy for a long time.

#6 Manksgloob on 16 Jul 2003 - 00:30
LiGhTfast, thats a perfect analogy. I was trying to find some way of telling my friends. I think i will use what you said. heh.
#7 kairon on 16 Jul 2003 - 00:48
UT2003 is awesome. UT was too. UT was my first computer game I ever played as far as I can remember. If madden can do it every year, then Atari can do it 10x better.

Can't wait! There is so many possibilities with the addition of these vehicles.
#8 LonghornXP2006 on 16 Jul 2003 - 01:32
come on, bring out some really good games.. the games for the past few years have sucked.
#9 musicmaster on 16 Jul 2003 - 03:05

#10 memNOC on 16 Jul 2003 - 03:45

All of you who hate this game might have played the game in pretty low settings. Turn on all the AA etc and in a high resolution, this game rocks. There is no better FPS right now that can utilise my 9800 to better levels.
#11.1 kairon on 16 Jul 2003 - 10:41
I agree! My 9500 is very good at this game. It's a great looking fun FPS.

#12.1 sinatosk on 16 Jul 2003 - 08:23

#13 wildliquid on 16 Jul 2003 - 06:06

#14 Jasco on 16 Jul 2003 - 06:18

#15 lucasvanos on 16 Jul 2003 - 07:16
Cool game , but the specs will be sky high i guess
#16 Monitox on 16 Jul 2003 - 09:14
Bleah.. UT was soooo nice The 2K3 series sucks. I don't understand what is happed with the producers

You will need at least 1 Mb/s to play this "game" on the net with that damn cars and soo many graphical "improvements"
#17 netizen on 16 Jul 2003 - 09:50
I get the feeling this will be to UT2003 what GTA:VC was to GTAIII. *Basically* the same game with major/minor updates, but how it should have been all along. I get the feeling any engine updates could be limited to the new game as a further selling point. But hey at least you can rely on bonus packs, it's not as if they stop developing the game the day it releases.
#18 kairon on 16 Jul 2003 - 10:40
Give me a discount price and ill take it!Ahh..what the heck, ill buy it anyways. My all time dream of a good FPS with cool gameplay and cool vehicles
#19 ToastGodSupreme on 16 Jul 2003 - 18:24
I bet the guys at Atari/Infogrames are going:
w00t! Let's see how fast we can sell out and run this game into the ground!!! And in the process, let's milk it for all it's worth while providing crap content. We'll just let all the mod'ers make the good stuff!

So yeah. Nice. I loved the original UT. But I absolutely hate UT2003. And I'm pissed that I even bought it when it first came out.
