Atari announces that an Xbox version of Unreal II: The Awakening with Live support is currently in development.

Atari has today announced that an Xbox version of Unreal II: The Awakening is currently in development and scheduled for release before the end of this year. The game, which is currently being developed by Tantalus and Atari's own Legend Entertainment in concert with Epic Games, will boast a number of enhancements over the PC version released earlier this year--not the least of which will be a number of new multiplayer modes.

"Unreal II: The Awakening raised the bar for single-player first-person shooters on PC, and now Xbox owners will get to experience the same amazing gameplay along with the multiplayer benefits of Xbox Live," said Steve Allison, vice president of marketing in Atari's Los Angeles studio. "The game features a great story, amazing graphics and truly unique gameplay styles that keep it exciting from beginning to end. It's the perfect title for console shooter fans."

Since ALL other holographic storage technology use a spatial light modulator (SLM) which writes one complete page of data at a time. The data must loaded serially to the SLM and is destructively written so any mistakes on the serial loaded SLM means increased wasted write data time. This method is great for WORM data storage but when BIT FOR BIT Erase / Write / and Read of random data to a disk is needed in real time day to day applications the SLM concept will NOT be able to function.

Colossal Storages method for writing is like having billions of vertical spatial light modulated pages in one rewritable ferroelectric track, each track having billions of SLM's. Imagine having billions of SLM on the disk where the data is written / read in bit / byte / word accurately every time at atomic light speeds.

Ferroelectric non-linear photonic bandgap crystals offer the possibility of controlling and manipulating light within a UV/Deep Blue frequency. The small size of ferroelectric photonic bandgap structures makes it possible to fabricate transparent optical devices like volume atomic holographic storage having both positive and negative index of refraction.

Colossal Storage has over 1200 of the world's best scientist wanting to prove the patent and holographic concepts of the infinite rewritable random access nanotechnology.

Patents covers techniques and functions for controlling ferroelectric perovskite high-K dielectric binary dipole molecules properties which can be used for atomic holographic optical mass storage of data. The patents deal with techniques for fast data transfer read/write control of ferroelectric molecules which have a data retention life of >100 years.

Colossal Storage patents for ferroelectric optical storage wants to raise data storage densities > 40,000 terabits/cubic centimeter.

One 3.5 in FeDisk will = 20,000 DVD's or 4,000 Blu-ray disks

Actually FPS games work very well with the xbox controller.
#1.2 Solarix on 16 Jul 2003 - 19:34
no they dont lol

Do you have an XBOX?

Because if you did you'd see they do work very well.

it does work well. I was doubtful, but actually PLAYING halo for a while dispelled all of that from ME.

try it sometime. you might find it refreshing.

halo worked just fine

Wasn’t unreal2 was embarrassing for pc so they decided to release it for Xbox as a matter of fact for any counsel

i reckon it was such a dissapointment for the PC that they've had to release the console version to make some money back
#5 pizzadude on 16 Jul 2003 - 19:37
I was one of those who had the misfortune to play it through *shudder*

I tried the (very short) demo, played it once, and deleted it. I was really looking forward to this game because I loved the original, but other than the name and a few Skaarj this game seems to have absolutely nothing to do with Unreal.

unreal2 isnt that bad on pc, sure its not the gr8est, but its pretty good, starts off a bit slow though and beautiful graphics!

alot of people were put off with the high spec pc requirements and extra slow loading times, but a patch fixed that.

I'm using a P3 733Mhz with 390+ of 133 SDRAM with a GF4 4200 with 64MB and can you believe it if I told you that I played it with an averege FPS of 90 at 1024x768 with all (and I mean ALL) bells on?
