Hi everyone,

Our new build (5.0.0337), RC2, is available for your testing enjoyment.

If you got ahold of 335, we recommend uninstalling it before installing 337. As is mentioned on the betaplace website, there is only one very minor difference between the two that very few people are unlikely to run into that has to do with corporate deployments, so you shouldn't feel like you need to move to the new build if you installed 335.

Lots of smaller issues, working on the fit and finish of the product.

We have a very small list of known issues with Windows Messenger 5.0 that are severe enough to warrant changes at this time, so although this isn't the final build it is very close.

Thank you again for your hard work!

All i have to say is they better, i'm not gonna sit here updating all 3 of my machines to version 1.6 by steam
#2.1 Wrath Delivery on 22 Jul 2003 - 13:46
Steam keeps a cache of files it downloaded. You can copy this cache to the second and third machine and install quickly!

Sweet, not a problem now

hehe

Well I think thats why they have been developing STEAM it will be used extensively in the future, and all the products which are now free to use (ie Half-Life etc), will require a valid key in future. So unfortunately, yes you will have to use STEAM

It may even possibly (it has been rumoured) go subscriber, but I sincerely hope that doesn't happen as that will kill off CS etc
#3.1 Neobond on 22 Jul 2003 - 12:35
Half Life 2 will use Steam to validate/update too...
#3.2 BeLGaRaTh on 22 Jul 2003 - 12:52
Yep, forgot about that. It will indeed be used to validate/update HL2.

DJ^TuRKiYe it wont necessarily leave 56k'ers in the dark, you will still be able to get updates from the net, you will just have to use STEAM rather than going to whatever site you use at the minute. In some respects I find that a better approach as you always know your gettingit from a good source, and the patches/updates will be, umm, up to date.

As mentioned I just hope it doesnt go subscription only, that would be very bad for the community.
#3.3 DJ^TuRKiYe on 22 Jul 2003 - 13:14
Well the problem would not be there if you only had one computer to update, but when you have multiple computers on 56k connections downloading from steam

Guess i'm gonna have to put my lan to good use and just copy over the updated files from one computer to the other.

So there gonna leave the 56kers in the dark.. How nice of them.
#4.1 Kristian on 22 Jul 2003 - 13:04
In 1.6 we will have both options. Update with Steam or download via www.counter-strike.net.

You wont have to use Steam yet... But some other day though...
#4.2 DJ^TuRKiYe on 22 Jul 2003 - 13:10
Hopefully before that day i get broadband

I believe its coming out same time as CS:CZ which is the border of being canned i thinks
#7.3 DJ^TuRKiYe on 22 Jul 2003 - 14:30
I was looking forward to CS:CZ it better not be cancelled

HL2 is another thing i'm looking forward to
#7.4 Saadu on 22 Jul 2003 - 14:42
Yes sir, because we know once CZ is out, you can play CS maps from CZ (but not vice versa) So they probably are synching their development and killing bugs from both the games at the same time.
If i had to guess, cs1.6 will show up just before CZ is launched (that is IF it is launched)

Fixed radio/VOX sounds not playing after alt-tab'ing out of the game. -

I don't understand why people on a 56k modem would want to play Counterstrike anyway. I mean, I know why they'd want to, but it's not much fun. I've played it over LAN, Cable, High speed ethernet, and 56 k, and I can tell you a ping around 200 ain't much fun.

#8.1 nookadum on 22 Jul 2003 - 15:12
That's because you experienced LAN and Cable, which are high-speed connections. You got used to it. 56k users who aren't used to those speeds will still enjoy.

200ping is PRETTY GOOD for a 56k'er.
#8.2 slang123 on 22 Jul 2003 - 16:01
Some ppl have no choice, its 56K or nothing. Are you saying if u had 56K you wouldnt play online?
#8.3 DJ^TuRKiYe on 22 Jul 2003 - 22:05
I don't play online. My pings to servers out of the country are about 400ms on on a good day ad 800ms on a bad

I play mostly LAN games now i have three computers connected and if my mates want to have a game they can lug there towers over to my house and connect to my network

I played CS on 56k for 3 years, entered alot of tourneys with my clan, and played just as well as the people on dsl and cable. 56k isnt all that bad, people seriously over exagerate with the "OMG 56k SUCKS FOR CS LOLOLOLOLOLOLOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1111111111"
#9.1 mikey on 22 Jul 2003 - 16:46
pwned
#9.2 Krankerz on 22 Jul 2003 - 19:08
what's with all the 1's? And 56K does suck. Have you ever tried broadband? Seriously, with broadband, I get pings under 100. With dialup, I never could get a ping below 300.
#9.3 vetToxicfume on 23 Jul 2003 - 02:10
With my dialup I don't get pings above 170 on the servers i play
#10 Cygoku on 22 Jul 2003 - 17:06

ooohhhh sh*t..... it just came to me

STEAM is going to cost money.... ill bet they'll try to scam money out of the people just like GAMESPY & FILEPLANET

...offer a very bad service for free, and make people pay xx $ every month to use premium servers....
#11.1 nookadum on 23 Jul 2003 - 09:48
Gamespy (the program) and Fileplanet sucks, not their services. (i.e. 3DActionPlanet, PlanetQuake, PlanetHalfLife, etc.)

PENNY ARCADE.
