Find out what will be powering Sony's upcoming handheld.
In the PlayStation Meeting 2003, Sony Computer Entertainment revealed details and specifications for its upcoming handheld, the PSP. SCE described the PSP as the "21st-century Walkman," showing confidence in the company's upcoming product, which utilizes a number of high-end components. The PSP will consist of two microprocessors, an advanced sound engine, a 3D graphics engine, a 4.5-inch 16:9-format TFT LCD screen, and a number of connection capabilities.
The PSP will run under two 32-bit MIPS R4000 microprocessors, described by SCE president Ken Kutaragi as each having 10 times the clock speed of the PlayStation’s CPU and the same amount of power as the PlayStation 2's CPU. One of the microprocessors will be used as the CPU, and the other will be utilized as an engine dedicated to handling media such as movies and music with its own 2MB of memory. Although the PSP's main memory will be 8MB, Kutaragi commented that it is an extraordinary volume for a handheld game console. In general, all the components used in the PSP are designed for low energy consumption since it is a portable device, and the microprocessors feature a low-voltage (1.2V) design.

I think even the Atari Lynx was better . Besides the GameGear and the Nomad had both TV support.
Ahhhh memories . . .
Xbox is way multi-purpose console. Not sure about Phantom, might wait to confirm when its out.
And what did MS do with their xbox, they just assembled a PC, modified OS a bit and called it a console. It's like writing your own explorer.exe and calling it a console. They didn't even bother to make it a normal size, it looks like VCR from 1980's.
are they trying to kill the PS2?
edit: PLAYSTATION CPU. not ps2. LOL
PSP is gonna be tiny and has all that power! WOW!
Think (a more) mobile PSone.
While over here in the USA, this reminds me somewhat of how smaller companies freaked out and went sue-happy everytime MS elbowed into their market.
I think it says a lot that competition seems slightly less violent in Japan than it does over here.
Also for all you X-Box fanboys out there. the ps2 would actually be more powerfull if it wernt crippled by sony by not having much ram. i dont think the emotion engine made it into the ps2 in its entirety ... shame that
Cygoku
On pockets - some say GBA own, some say PSP (will) own, some say <insert name here> own. On consoles, some say PCs own, some say xboxes own, some say PS ones own, some say PS2s own, some say GameCubes own, some say N64s own, some say Dreamcasts own, some say old SEGA systems own, some say <insert name here> owns.
So?

IMHO, I think the Phantom is going to blow, but thats just IMO, a lot of people are looking forward to it.
I just think, the Phantom is just a PC running Windows XP that's only input is the phantom.net service and where bad things happen to it if you open the box. Come on! - the Phantom is more of a PC than the xbox is...and someone will just devise an ethernet CD-ROM drive so you can put software on it. :-)
