Looks like my console of choice continues its slide...

Japanese videogame maker Nintendo says it sold [EDIT] 800,000 [/EDIT] GameCube consoles worldwide in the latest quarter.

Nintendo, creator of the Pokemon game series, also said it sold 3.24 million Game Boy Advance (GBA) hand-held machines globally in April-June, the first quarter of the business year.

In May, Kyoto-based Nintendo said it aimed to sell six million GameCube consoles and 20 million GBA machines worldwide in the business year to next March.

Vantec NXP-205 Fan Controller Review
Nexus Fan Controller connects up to 4 fans and allows you manually adjust the fan speed and noise level. The fan speed is determined by the variable speed potentiometer settings which vary the voltage of the fan from 7V-12V. Each channel will support 15-18W. Blue LED lights combine perfectly with the Black or Silver housing. Nexus Fan Controller is great for Large CFM fans and fits perfectly in your standard 5'25" drive bay.

#3.7 Blizzard_X on 06 Aug 2003 - 15:36
emulation of older consoles runs a lot better on the xbox than on the pc... and they require less configuration and never crash.

I wish there were more cool games for it. And that Nintendo could get Square/Enix to release their final fantasy series for GameCube as well.
#4.1 stezo2k on 06 Aug 2003 - 09:50
final fantasy X-2 is coming out for GC, and also crystal chronicles is coming out for it too

that should boost popularity by a bit, not so much in europe though, i have no idea why they dont like it, ffx is my fave game of all time
#4.2 JustinSaneLBS on 06 Aug 2003 - 12:12
I dont think X2 is coming out Gamecube, I know Crystal Chronicles is though.

I think FFX2 is only coming out for PS2.
#4.3 dougkinzinger on 06 Aug 2003 - 14:07
X-2 isn't coming out on the GameCube--next time don't post unless you know.

#5.1 macrosslover on 06 Aug 2003 - 08:49

#8.1 nookadum on 06 Aug 2003 - 17:02
The only good games for the Cube is Metroid Prime and Smash Brothers Melee.
#8.2 BTallack on 06 Aug 2003 - 18:08

#11 [EvilBeAr] on 06 Aug 2003 - 13:12
so when your done you can return your gamecube and game and buy a good long lasting stick of ram.

i think one of the reason for it not being very popular is because of the disc's size and its lack of backward compatiblity with games of older systems.....
the GC's games imo are pretty good and fun to play....
#12.1 DarkRyu on 06 Aug 2003 - 14:07
Backward Compatibility with what? Nintendo's previous systems were cart-based..
#12.2 Jon on 06 Aug 2003 - 16:07
Do you want a medal for stating the glaringly obvious there DarkRyu?

#13 ghos on 06 Aug 2003 - 14:00
Instead of letting the Gamecube get attention all on its own, Nintendo keeps pushing the interactivity between GBA and GC. Its a great selling point, but not the only one. To be sure though there has been a lack of good games a la N64. Even the Mario title, Mario Sunshine, was disappointing for most. Until GC has killer games that everyone wants that no other system has, it will always be run of the mill.
#14 netizen on 06 Aug 2003 - 17:06
As someone said above the problem is the size of the disc... know why that is? Can't run pirated games on it! Why the hell else has the PSone kept selling so well to this day. How many people can say they know somebody that HASN'T got the PS1/2 chipped? Sony know this and use it to their advantage.
(1 reply) #15 Lezend on 06 Aug 2003 - 17:49
And I was about to buy a GC. DOH!

The only reason I buy the GC because of FF Chronicle. I owned all FF series, and I like the upcoming one. Thats all. Other wise I wouldn't even consider GC in my collection. GC got no game. *yes* You heard me. No GAMES.
#15.1 Mav Phoenix on 06 Aug 2003 - 17:57
What an idiot....

this is getting confusing, i've seen too many articles from yahoo, cnn, bloomberg etc...that all say 80,000 and NOT 800,000.

there's no way that all of them can make that typo mistake because the articles are different enough to show that somebody typed it and didn't paste it. we need to find the real nintendo press release to get the real figures.
(2 replies) #17 Danrarbc641 on 06 Aug 2003 - 19:52
Even with only shipping (that's right, the Yahoo article is wrong in saying sold) 800,000 in the quarter that brings them up to a total of 10.35 million console if you do the math.

Thats marginally ahead of Xbox I don't see what the problem is for some people.

Edit Heck, I just did the math for 80,000 shipped. 9.63 million, still ahead of total MS gave for Xbox a few weeks ago. There's no reason to be concerned for either console.
#17.1 Mav Phoenix on 06 Aug 2003 - 19:56
The problem is people love to be Trolls..
#17.2 macrosslover on 06 Aug 2003 - 20:34
ok yahoo may be wrong, but reuters and cnn...all 3 of them can't be wrong together. they all say 80,000. which obviously means 80,000 shipped to retail for the last quarter. now we know that nintendo sold 9.55 million to retail at the end of march, which means if you add these numbers 80,000 then they have only shipped 9.6 million Gamecubes total.

all the actual sales of gamecube since March have been from the excess inventory that retailers have had. Nintendo stopped making the GCN to clear out the inventory.

now if Nintendo only shipped 9.6 million to retail and xbox shipped 9.4 to retail at the end of June, and assuming that they shipped 100,000 units worldwide since then i'd say that roughly puts them at 9.6 for Nintendo and 9.5 for Xbox. Nintendo was obviously lying when they said they had more than 1 million more units than the Xbox at E3.

the problem with the Nintendo fansites like cube.ign.com is that they assumed 800,000 units. there's no way possible that EVERY single last news outlet that did this story would report 80,000. the only way that's possible is that Nintendo really did only sell 80,000 new units to retail this last quarter. i just can't see every single last news site making the same mistake, but hey i could be wrong.

at the end of their fiscal year their excess inventory for Gamecubes was about 5 million. that's almost the same amount of Gamecubes they sold for the whole fiscal year and that's how much they need to get rid of before they start making more Gamecubes.

either way this is not good news for Nintendo, i'm glad personally because it will mean that in 2 months time MS will truly/firmly and finally be in the 2nd place position. but Nintendo's president better announce some price cuts Thursday because the investors are starting to get pissed off and when investors get pissed off, heads roll.

I posted a bloody long post in this thread earlier today, and the parent (along with mine) has been deleted.

VERY p*ssed off at neowin for that.

Game Cube would be way more popular if it had launched while Pokémon was big.
