It's Sept. 4th, and the Ion Storm Austin offices are a quiet, intense hive of activity as the staff begins to wrap up development on Deus Ex: Invisible War. In just a few days, the game will enter content-lock, meaning little to no new content will be added; instead, the focus will switch to finding and squashing bugs and other errata. As they prep us for a playtest of the Xbox version, Chief Kibitzer Warren Spector and Project Director Harvey Smith seem pleased with the state of the game.

Invisible War, for those unaware, is the sequel to Deus Ex, 2000's genre-bending adventure game that combined first-person "emergent" gameplay with an epic story that mined decades worth of conspiracy theories to make for one of the most original and gripping experiences to ever grace an interactive game. We even declared it our "Game of the Year", so it's no coincidence that we're eagerly anticipating the final version of Invisible War.

2.21.54 Version - 06/09/2003
  • Full compatibility with the new MSN Messenger 6.1.
  • Full compatibility with MSN Messenger 5.0.575 (Windows 95 release).
  • Some translations have been improved.
  • New translation added: Hungarian.
  • When the /all command is used, tags are now interpreted differently for each chat.
  • The Initialize() function of C/C++ plugins isn't called in a different thread anymore (it make things easier if you want your plugin to display a window.
  • The title of chat windows is now always updated correctly to remove multi-format tags from contact names.
  • Some people are experiencing problems with their encryption password (Messenger Plus! refuses a valid password). The reason of this problem has yet to be found, however, if you get the bug with this new version, you'll have a workaround: go in the Preferences, click the "Change" button and reenter your password (same one or a different, your choice). This will reset Messenger Plus! internal settings so that you can continue to use your password as if nothing happened.
  • The "Old Password" field has been removed. Instead, the "Change" button is disabled when you're not signed in.

this is the only game worthy to fight HL2 for the FPS crown (maybe stalker too)

Why are so many people counting out Doom 3?
#3.2 Minotaur on 10 Sep 2003 - 03:05
I think Doom3 will be a great *engine* rather than a great game. It'll be a good 6 months or so before other companies start using the engine for their games (I'm guessing Soldier of Fortune III as a possibility, amongst others).

Not to mention the rather extraordinary hardware requirements for Doom3 to run at its full potential. Doom3 may look prettier overall, but for most people the $$$ required to get their computers up to scratch to play it with all they eye candy will be a barrier.

Half Life 2 will dominate all

I don't really think DX2 and HL2 are really in the same genre. DX2 isn't really an FPS. Sure it has some FPS elements, but I hope it'll involve a lot more than that.

I think we should take this time to respect a great man.

Jeff Groteboer, the voice actor of Gunther Herrmann, died in July this year. He has been voice acting for several different gaming producers. I think we will all remember his voice, even though he is no longer with us. (planetdeuse

I think we now should hold a moment of silence.
