Following Nintendo's first ever loss, they have announced plans to launch a new console next year but, as usual, it will be released in Japan first. Nintendo have not yet announced whether it'll be a handheld (likely) or a home console (unlikely) but we do know that it'll be shown at E3 in May. In the meantime, here's a quote regarding Nintendo's financial results:
Nintendo's group net loss totaled 2.89 billion yen ($26.6 million) in the six months ended Sept. 30. The Kyoto-based company generated profit of 19 billion yen a year ago. First-half sales rose 1.6 percent to 211.4 billion yen, the company said in a statement released through the Osaka Securities Exchange.
Nintendo today repeated its full-year net income and sales forecasts announced October. Sales are expected to total 550 billion yen and net income 60 billion yen for the 12 months ending March 31, 2004.
Nintendo also reiterated its full-year forecast of shipping 6 million GameCube video consoles, and 20 million GameBoy Advance hand-held games.

In other words... I wish people who have no idea what it takes to make a console or it's games would stop thinking out loud.
Wait until the thing is announced first, before then you never really have a handle of where it is in the design process..
"Gamers now have the choices of Gameboy Advance, Gameboy Advance SP, and now the Special Edition Gameboy Advance SP Super Deluxe VG FV LP. Why do you want this one? Many people complained that about the light in the first Gameboy Advance so the light has been relocated AGAIN! This time two nano-inches to the left. Scrap your old SP, the SP Super Deluxe VG FV LP is the one you want."
Unless they come out with MP3 storage or something, I'm probably not going to buy it if it's a handheld
like sp is supposed to be the best gameboy and they leave it off
/rant off
Nintendo has been around longer than any of the competition, so I seriously doubt that they will go down after a poor release date for the Gamecube. There's not much they can do about Microsoft buying out the competition either..Microsoft has to have a monopoly to have success.
well, here's one: when i go up to the cottage, i bring the PS2. why? coz there is only a TV there, so PS2 works 3 ways --- Gaming, Play Music CDs, and Play DVDs out at the cottage.
DVD drives are about the same $$ as CD drives these day, so why not give ability to play DVD movies since its already in the friggin box.
Thats a load of rubbish. They bought Rare and maybe a few tiny companies which would of gone down on their own anyway. Most companies gladly make games for them. Best hardware and setup. Thats why they are doing well. Nintendo are still stuck in the 90s.
What you're all talking about are entertainment systems, not consoles. The cube is a true console, they kept that focus. If you want your all in one wonder box, then stick with your PoS2. The real gamers know where to look for console fun.
Seems a long time to go with no loss. That should spell death to nintendo alright.
go nintendo!..
At the end of the day, it's what a company can produce, let the best machine win, simple as that
A world in which i didn't own Windwaker, Prime, F-zero, Eternal Darkness, Mario Sunshine, Rogue Leader, and all the other great games released/or soon to be released would be so much more fun!
Die, Nintendo, Die!
probably some time of online wireless gameboy type deal...
Next its not 100% Nintendo's fault, but im not saying its partly not. Heres a new mix to the problem when PS 1 was release and developers wanted to create on it because they could put more on CD. Sony made them sign contracts that wouldn't allow them to write for other platforms. Thats why in the resecent years we have been seeing more games go all 3 platforms because Sony's contracts are done and no developer would be nuts enuff to sign something like that anymore. Might also be why Nintendo waited so long to release the Cube because it knew contracts would start breaking around that time. So with this the Cube might have had a design to be like the Virtual Boy a steping stone. The Virtual Boy was just some R&D for there Polygon engine and they boxed it up to make some cash off it.
Still today if someone can point out a game that dates after Wave Race 64 or Mario 64 that has better liquid effects / water effects / with AI on it other then a game made by Nintendo on the cube. Then flame me. But i haven't seen better water on any system then Nintendo sence the 64 and the 64 was very old.
-Just my 2 cents- Flamers Flame on because thats all you have better todo.
