Nokia today vowed to "aggressively pursue" the people behind the successful attempt to crack its N-Gage handheld console-cum-phone's copy protection mechanism.

A Nokia spokesman told The Register the company had already begun working with ISPs and law enforcement agencies to track down the perpetrators.

He also said the company would attempt to shut down web sites posting the crack software - a move reminiscent of the movie industry's pursuit a few years back of anyone hosting the DeCSS DVD cracking code.

"We are treating this very seriously," he said. "As soon as we saw these claims posted on the Internet, we started to investigate."

people don't check the 20's properly though. Isn't it not made of paper? I know the 100's aren't.

#5.1 radixvir on 13 Nov 2003 - 23:13
once that happens it will be like a ps emulator where you have to download the bios somewhere. but the games dont really seem like something you would want to play other than on the phone.

Or at all, phone or not.

There is NO point, whats done is done.. They should of put more effort into making anti-crack... not be cracked in 3 days. There own fault fools! and charging so much for a crappy game, is there any wonder why people want to crack it?..

good luck to the people that have cracked it.

Agreed. Nokia shouldn't be putting their efforts into finding out who to blame it on, they should be putting their efforts- nevermind, I was going to say on making a better system but I don't think they have the ability to do that.

The Genie is out of the bottle, Nokia should have known that when they brought out the N-Gage.
#8.1 mipra on 14 Nov 2003 - 08:37
hahaha..good point there..especially when Sony Ericsson is trying to tackle them
#8.2 mipra on 14 Nov 2003 - 08:39
how much do you think they would spent to do that?
(2 replies) #9 twist on 14 Nov 2003 - 03:39
i don't think it will be hard for them to figure it out. i mean they only sold like 5 or 6 of the things.
#9.1 stncttr908 on 14 Nov 2003 - 06:05
That was good.
#9.2 mipra on 14 Nov 2003 - 08:37
hmm..i would think they can do the calculation...
#10 walpurgis999 on 14 Nov 2003 - 16:41
You have to be rather stupid to create a device like this, and enable it to do so much, and not expect someone to crack it when it is easily connected to a computer.

Hold on a second. I know that a lot of this is a big PR game, but I have to ask a serious question.

Did Nokia go into the gaming market believing nobody would ever successfully crack/mod/emulate/whatever their work? I mean, seriously. Every gaming system ever, EVER, if it needs to be modified in any way to play games for free, has been modified thusly. Why is Nokia's PR department taking this like an insult?
#11.1 Zeni on 15 Nov 2003 - 08:05
Perhaps they thought no one would care enough about the thing to bother cracking it, I know I sure wouldn't.

Oh no, they're gonna lose money on selling games to the 10 or so people that actually bought an N-Gage, we've all misplaced 10 or 20 bucks here or there haven't we?
