DICE and EA to incorporate Punkbuster anti-cheating software into war game's next patch.

DICE and Electronic Arts announced today that they will include Punkbuster anti-cheating software in the forthcoming 1.6 Battlefield 1942 patch. "Our goal is to have measures in place which address both current and future cheats," said a statement on the official Battlefield 1942 site. "As such, after researching existing anti-cheat programs, we've determined that Punkbuster suits our purposes perfectly." According to the statement, the inclusion was in response to pressure from the BF 1942 community. Developed and published by Even Balance, Punkbuster software foils online game cheats through a variety of ways, including scanning players' computers for hacks and settings that otherwise exploit game engines. It is currently available for America's Army, Return to Castle Wolfenstein, Quake III Arena, and Rainbow Six 3: Raven Shield, among others.

Is also Unreal Tournament 2003 packed with Punkbuster ?
#1.1 DigitalDJ on 03 Dec 2003 - 06:35
thankgoodness no!

UT2003 isnt packaged with a cheat package yet

however epic has released a package called UTSecure which should be installed on servers as a mutator to find cheats ect.

AntiTCC has also been released which used to be based on UTSecure but now on its own base...more powerful that UTSecure and is used on afew servers

nooooooooo. not another game thats gonna use pb. it ruins sof2 as it is. the main reason being cuz i still cannot use the latest nvidia drivers. it just crashes my game when i login to a sof2 server.

make sure your punkbuster is updatred to the latest version... within the pb folder is an exe called pbweb i believe, but dont hold me on that name, but i ran that and it fixed all of my punk buster issues with nvidias drivers and enemy tierritory at least, so thats whorth a shot for soldier of fortune as well...

Yes but what use is playing on games if all ppl do is cheat, i think its a great idea... but it has its downside also, but thats what we pay for when we have little kids out there who think its fun to cheat.

They could use my solution and send sniper teams to the cheaters house... you figure out what they do once they get there

Still doesn't stop people from ghost riding vehicles into each other.

So the game is still fun

Note: I am not one of those people. My computer can barely run Starcraft let alone Battlefield 1942.

hmm I think its about time they addressed the cheating. pb seems pretty unobtrusive in q3. but then again CS has PB right? theres a real cheat free environment
#5.1 Suddenly_Dead on 02 Dec 2003 - 23:13
CS has valve-anti-cheat (VAC) doesn't it?
#5.2 SimplyPotatoes on 03 Dec 2003 - 00:00
ya cs ditched pb because it "wasnt working" and "Vac " is better!! :/
#5.3 RoboStac on 03 Dec 2003 - 12:15
Actually, PB ditched CS, as valve weren't willing to help them, and they couldn't stop some of the cheats without more help from valve. Valve instead made the VAC system
