Works fine here using a Nividia Gforce 4200ti 128mb. All details set to high and AA set to medium but it gets slow sometimes when using a res higher than 800x600.

I can't wait to get home and play this game! Finally, a next gen game coming out! After hearing so much about Doom 3, Half-Life 2, ect... Far Cry is the first to make true and come out with a single player demo! Kick Ass!

YES! I live in Montreal 2 minutes from Ubi Soft studio. I can't wait to go and get my copy there soon!

whats the system requirements ? Aren't they pretty low?
Quote this comment #3.1 Posted by Frost_311 on 21 Jan 2004 - 17:32
I doubt they are low... Have you seen the trailers? The game looks amazing and has a huge draw distance. You can walk all over a huge island, the graphics are next gen Direct X 9 stuff, this is the first good game using this stuff and this is the first game using this new advanced engine. I'm sure you need at the least a Radeon 9xxx series card or GeForce Ti or better, along with 512mb of ram and at least a 1.2 GHz processor. The system requirements haven't been released yet, at least not on the offical game site.

BTW: If this is Ubi Softs way of responding to the leak of Far Cry (a alpha or beta version, not sure what it was) then they kick ass! Both Doom 3 and Half-Life 2 have been leaked and all those developers did was not talk to anyone from that point about the game (At least not giving any new info) Heck, we haven't even gotten that promised Half-Life 2 Non-interactive benchmark yet!

It doesn't look bad at all. I got the, *ahem* leaked beta, and I'm starting to lean toward buying the game. But there's others I'd like too this year, and I likely can't get them all, like:

Tribes: Vengence (definately), Sim City 4, Soldner, Halflife 2, Halo 2, Doom 3 (this year?), and some others.

It's going to be a good year for games.

Well I'll get flamed but, I played it and don't think we'll see many folk besides us that'll buy this game.

Pretty much the same ol same ol. But I think it's ok. The graphics , well, Let's say I was expecting a little more.
Quote this comment #11.1 Posted by Fanon on 22 Jan 2004 - 14:21
Agreed. While it was downloading yesterday, I watched the videos they had on the site. One of the videos had a rocket launcher kill a group of people and leave a crater for their dead bodies to slide down into. I immediately thought: oooh, deformable terrain.

Bleh, the game is nothing like it. It has potential, but I can think of quite a few other games that are better.

It won't run on my machine. Screen goes white .. but I can hear the sounds. I've got a 2.2ghz barton, 512pc3700 xms, radeon9800.

could it be the new cat 4.1s?
Quote this comment #12.1 Posted by threetonesun on 21 Jan 2004 - 22:10
same problem, but my screen goes black and I can hear the sounds. I'm on a 7500 with 3.10. I wonder if it needs 3.9 exactly to run
Quote this comment #12.2 Posted by RoboStac on 21 Jan 2004 - 23:51
Works fine with 4.1's here. Had to turn off antialiasing in control panel and in game though, or I had odd effects (eg it forgot to draw the landscape, so I had floating trees).

Yup..wow...a record 4.6 kb/sec on BT for this download. I'll have this demo in two days! *yay*

BT sucks.
Quote this comment #15.2 Posted by noll3095 on 22 Jan 2004 - 05:16
I don't think it's a Bittorrent problem... I was getting 250-300kBps from the torrent on Filerush.com.

Well I thought the graphics were OK but I didn't feel like I was interacting with the environment just sort of moving through it.

I didn't get that feeling of being in the game kinda like pretty scenery but with no real substance.

Personally I'm looking forward to MOH:pacific assault on the fps front, I've given up waiting for HL2

There are weird shadown problems. I see rocks in the distance and they're half black as if they were casting shadows on themselves. Most objects seem to do this =S

(I've XP2700+, ATI 9600 pro, 512 mb ram. It's not exactly old)
Quote this comment #18.1 Posted by Frost_311 on 22 Jan 2004 - 13:46
Anyone using an ATI card and getting corruption should go back to the 3.9 set of drivers as they are the only ones supported in this demo. ATI makes it very easy to go back to an old driver and move back up when you need to though. Just follow these steps:

1. Download the old 3.9 Catalyst http://www.ati.com/support/products/radeonwinxppreviousdrivers.html

2. Go to your Program FilesATI Technologies Folder, you should see another folder called Uninstall or something similar, in there double click and run the uninstall.exe file. This will remove all traces of the ATI drivers from you system and prompt you to reboot.

3. Once you've rebooted just install the 3.9's and you are golden.

For those saying this is just another FPS, well take a look around at the envrioments! Its amazing looking, the water reflections, swaying palm trees, the increadible draw distance. Also, the fact that you can go anywhere on this huge island is also very impressive. I spent time chasing a wild pig with my knife just to see if I could sneak up behind it and kill it. Granted other games have lots of interaction but this game is definately one of the better FPS games to come out in a while, remember they're still working on it so feedback they get from this demo might go into the game!

I installed 3.9s and got that. Game looks good for basically being beta. I don't like how slow the player movement is [sensitivities, firing rate, etc]. I also dislike how you can't shoot someone while you have a clear shot from behind a bush, it shows leaves go flying [HOW? I had my crosshair pinned on his head].

Oh boy...antialiasing and anisotropic filtering don't work at all.

BTW, Catalyst 4.1 and 9800 Pro 128MB.

Just hide behind cover, and try to get the enemy before they see you. Once you get past the first few guys in the island, you can get a good gun and the rest is easy. I completed the demo in about an hour (on medium), and I didn't even use a grenade

I was kind of put off at first by the checkpoint save system, but after playing it through I kind of like it. The checkpoints are placed close enough together, and it's actually enjoyable replaying a few minutes of the game once in a while .

I have an ATI 9200 with the Cat 4.1 and to get the game to run I had to drop the graphics to Low...then it was pretty good, looked well and played ok. I hope that the final will be more fun/exciting than the demo. The buggy was fun to drive as well as the patrol boat.

Just completed the demo, and I'm very much amazed by it.
I can only run it in 800x600 and everything on low(except the water, set to highest. Love cool looking water ), to be at a reasonable framereate, but it looks allright.

And already in the demo, there are several ways to complete it.
First, you can go to the nearest island with the few guys, or you can take the boat all around the island, either to west where the buggy is, or east where you can skip most of the bad guys.
When you get to the jungle up there, you can get to the higest level by walking on the paths, or you can take the underground walkway and then the elevator.

This game will be a must-have!

Is it normal for new games to require ATI users to fall back a driver or two? It seems to be happening a lot recently, and makes me glad I have my good old GF4 Ti. I'm going to be upgrading my graphics card in less than a year, and if ATI continues having problems with their drivers, I probably will have to stick with nVidia.
Quote this comment #27.1 Posted by BananaMan on 23 Jan 2004 - 06:50
It seems that way, dunnit? Strange, because I have a Radeon 9800 Pro and I've never needed to rollback drivers ever. Everything has always worked beautifully on the latest set of drivers. *shrugs*

The game is alight, but I don't care for the story, setting or the ultra-colourful graphics.
