Atari and Epic Games will release the official UT2004 demo this afternoon.

Atari and Epic Games announced they will release the highly anticipated official demo for Unreal Tournament 2004 later today. The demo includes five playable game modes, including Unreal Tournament 2004’s two new game modes: Onslaught mode, a team-based challenge that features two teams using air and land vehicles to overrun each other's frontlines, and a completely redesigned assault mode, where gamers are challenged to attack or defend bases.

PeopleSoft argues that an Oracle-PeopleSoft combination would leave too few competitors in the market for broad suites of software designed to automate accounting, human resources and manufacturing for the world's largest corporations. It claims prices would rise as a result. Oracle counters that the business applications market has too many rivals, including the formidable competitor Microsoft, which entered the market a couple of years ago.

Justice Department officials were not immediately available for comment.

Its quite good online, shame i sometimes i get disconnected from the server very randomly, but still i didn't notice much lag on the vechiles which is a change cause most vechile games lag like buggery
Quote this comment #15.1 Posted by Fanon on 12 Feb 2004 - 01:19
Yes, the net code seems to be much better than 2003's. As for servers, I'm having the same problem. I'll get bumped (or won't be able to join a server). What gives?

It's also listed in the demo in that scrolling text.

Full AA and AF? I've always found the UT series to be very generous towards cards.
Quote this comment #24.2 Posted by bangbang023 on 12 Feb 2004 - 01:30
no I don't use AA and only 4x AF. I just was expecting another halo mess, I guess.

I don't just care about it runs; how does it feel and play? What aboot the lag, if there's much or if there's not. The latest Unreal demo I tried, the U2:XMP with the vehicles was laggy like mad. Games like tribes 1/2 and BF do the vehicles with lag free-ness and I hope UT2K4 is the same. Well... I better just try it eh?
Quote this comment #31.1 Posted by abysal on 12 Feb 2004 - 04:50
It wasn't laggy at all, played 18 (16 bots 2 people), game runs smoother then UT2003 @ 1024x768. The vehicals are awsome as well!!!!!

The full game differs in the following ways compared to this demo:

* Textures in the full game are, on average, 2X higher resolution
than in the demo. The textures in the demo were reduced because
of download size limitations.

=====================

Maybe that's why it runs so good for everyone

As chance would have it I have tommorow off work (booked for other reasons, I'm not that sad... )
Loved UT1 and UT2003, gonna have some fun with this.

Can't wait to give this a try! Downloading now! I really liked how UT2003 let me play online pretty good with my 56k modem. If the net code is even better then the last

The only thing is my flat screen monitor isn't very FPS friendly. But I'll live
Quote this comment Reply to this comment #42 Posted by stezo2k on 12 Feb 2004 - 18:27

Quote this comment Reply to this comment #43 Posted by altermind on 13 Feb 2004 - 05:13
hurm... they need to optimise it big time.... runs a hell of alot slower then UT2003 on my system... considering.. I can max out the game in UT2003.... at over 140 fps on average... this dies at 60... wtf...

but ooo soo sweet
Quote this comment Reply to this comment #44 Posted by csabo2 on 13 Feb 2004 - 07:14
wow runs perfect @ 1600x1200 full aa , was getting an avg of 70fps on my 9800
Quote this comment Reply to this comment #45 Posted by [f] on 13 Feb 2004 - 08:55
I don't know exactly how to check my fps, but it runs awesome at 1600x1200 on my radeon 9000 pro....it looks and plays amazing (considering I only have a 533Mhz P3)...played online at 1024x680 and it runs amazing too........WAY better than UT2003.

I'm very impressed (I was origionally going to be happy if it even played at all lol)
Quote this comment Reply to this comment #46 Posted by CheeseCow on 13 Feb 2004 - 09:08
Yeah, it is fast, can't tell the difference in speed from the 2003 version. But it doesn't look all that much greater either. Perhaps due to the small textures included?

Well, Doom3 will be out soon...

ERMMMM WAT CAN I SAY?!?! after just playing this demo, ITS A FLIPPIN COPY OF HALO'S MULTIPLAYER!!! sorry, disapointed, halo is much better than this!
Quote this comment Reply to this comment #48 Posted by Caelamia on 14 Feb 2004 - 21:02
Been playing Onslaught on a UK server and it's loads of fun! I have played Halo multiplayer on the PC before and I don't like it. The pace is too slow, it's not as exciting as any of the UT family and I just didn't enjoy it as much. You know what they say about everyone having opinions...

To some people, it will seem like Halo, but it's not the case. You could also say it's similar to Battlefields 1942, where you have to capture all bases, ride around in vehicles etc. but I've heard no-one mention that yet. To be honest, I don't care if it is like any other game or not. I love UT2003 (where many shun it in favour of the original) and I will love UT2004 when I buy it next month.

Noticed some welcome changes from UT2003 already. The firing rate of the Lightning Gun and Shock Rifle have finally been upped. They were much too slow in the previous game.

I also can run the demo maxed out (GeForce3 Ti200 128mb, XP2000+ etc.), but I would be very surprised if I got away with this in the retail version. The included maps are quite large, and it's when you get closed spaces, loads of dynamic lights, particle emitters and large textures that it starts to test your PC. Icetomb and Inferno maps in UT2003 are a real test - if you can play these smoothly, at a high FPS, all maxed out, congratulations - you have a great PC!
