After the unofficial release of the bonus level for the first demo, Ubi Soft has now officially released the second single-player demo for Far Cry, again offering the Research mission from the tropical island FPS by Crytek Studios. Regrettably this is another humongous full download rather than a patch for the original demo, so if you already have that first demo and are bandwidth impaired, you're better off with the small bonus download.

News source: 3D Gamers
Download: Far Cry single-player demo 2 (519Mb)
View: Official website

The 32 bit version supports Drag&Drop from and to explorer/desktop, delete to the recycle bin, and Explorer style context menus/property sheets. FTP servers on the Internet can be accessed like local drives.A configurable directory hotlist (bookmarks) and history list make directory navigation easier.

The sync function allows to synchronize two complete directory trees, and the compare function shows the difference of two binary or text files highlighted side by side. The new parallel port connection works between any combination of Windows 95/98/ME, Windows NT 4, Windows 2000/XP, Windows 3.1 and even DOS through a separate server.

NOTE: The update is still free for all registered users (also of Windows Commander)

What's New in This Release:

  • Fixed: With file panels above each other, the mouse wheel may have scrolled the wrong window
  • Fixed: Ctrl+Q on drive in "My Computer" turned off quick view permanently

I'm enjoying the first demo quite a bit. It seems reasonably freeform as to how it lets you go about your objective, and, for me anyway, requires a slower pace, because in a big gunfight with multiple enemies, its very easy to die. The fact I haven't completed the demo after quite a while (in fact, have restarted it multiple times to try different paths) means the full game could last me quite a while (these days, nothing bores me more than a standard blast-straight-through-to-the-end-in-a-few-hours-because-its-so-easy-you-dont-value-your-life-and-are-never-in-real-trouble game), and so I'm quite tempted to buy it.

Quote this comment #8.3 Posted by Confuser on 09 Mar 2004 - 12:39
Mostly yes, usually it starts at 200k/sec then goes up to 400k/sec to stay like that till download ends... Gamershell has many very fast links.

I played it on medium and beat it. You can't rush every room expecting to leave untouched, it takes *some* stealth
