That's what a new analysts' report reckons, anyway

Sony have already won the next generation of console wars and PlayStation 3 will have sold three times more than Xbox 2 in Europe by 2010 - according new a new report by analysts the Informa Media Group. The study claims that 32 million PS3 consoles will have been shifted by the end of the decade, compared to 10 million for Xbox 2 and just five million for Nintendo's N5.

"Sony is set to exploit the lead it established with the PS2 but will face a much stronger challenge from Microsoft, who is determined not to be left chasing Sony next time," says the report's author Toby Scott. "Meanwhile, Nintendo seems set to play to its strengths and emphasise game quality and innovation over processor horsepower."

Yay for Nintendo!

I don't buy it, while it's likely the PS3 will remain the console sales leader I doubt that the Xbox won't make up any ground....

I wish I had the psychic powers these analysts seem to have.

well with the announcement of 'no harddrive' in the xbox2 i think they may lose half thier userbase IMO

#4.1 Ehrihk on 10 Mar 2004 - 22:32
The "No HDD" hasn't been confirmed. The announcement about it was the flash drive makers spouting off their mouths.

your gonna av 2 wait till 2005/6 but i reckon its gonna be blooody good. Think of the graphics. oh the graphics.

Substance is more important. I'd take Mario Bros. for the NES over a lot of things on the PS2/Xbox.
#7.2 philbarnes on 11 Mar 2004 - 12:27
or super mario kart for the SNES !!!
#8 aaron901 on 10 Mar 2004 - 22:39

Depends which system has the best modable homebrew stuff for me

ps2 homebrew is very poor and the gamecube is pretty much non existant... the xbox scene kicks ass
#9.1 divertom15 on 10 Mar 2004 - 23:32
well the ps2 officially supports linux hell sony sells the kit on their website so i wouldnt complaint to much at it and if sony makes another kit for the ps3 i doubt there will be a need for the xbox2 to be my computer specialy if there is no hard drive there will be no place to save game discs to...

sounds like somebody plugged in, charged up, and turned on the hype machine for ps3 ;p

This is the stupidest thing yet. No one even knows the hardware that will be in either console, how can they even give sales numbers!?!?
#11.1 mr_da3m0n on 10 Mar 2004 - 23:29
More importantly, no one even knows the games.

Hardware does not mean crap.
#11.2 divertom15 on 10 Mar 2004 - 23:36
yeah we know parts of what the xbox is supposed to have a power pc processor an sis motherboard chipset some type of flash based storage and an ati video card ps3 is at least going to be backwards compatable and have an ati chip too

but yeah as said above hardware means jack if more people have a ps2 it must mean the quality of the games are higher
#11.3 nuka_t on 10 Mar 2004 - 23:54
hardware is more importat than softweare. companies dont write software for ****ty hardware. once its out there will be killer games(assuming ms hasnt bought out all the software companies).
#11.4 Trinae on 11 Mar 2004 - 02:59
Hardware more important? I think that ideas are the most important part of the gaming industry. I believe that hardware facilitates the link between ideas and actually producing the software that we give the yea or nay to. As for predictions... I think its safe to say that in 1994-ish if someone was to tell you that in one console's time Sony would rule over Nintendo, many would have laughed. All in all hopefully the consol wars will tighten a little.

Ummm where did you get your facts on PS3 will probably have an ATI card too? Sony is going to make their own graphics card like in the PS2. Another iteration for the emotion engine and not too mention this cuts down costs using their own propriety engine.

Gotta love it when analysts use current numbers and extrapolate those out over the next 6 years.

When has the video game market ever been the same as the previous generation? NES for 8 years, Genesis/SNES for 6, N64/PS1/Saturn for 5 years, Xbox/PS2/GCN for 5+ years. There is always a change, you can use the current numbers.
#13 theh0g on 11 Mar 2004 - 09:53
Sony convinced me with PSX and PS2, so I'll buy PS3 also, but I might also buy xbox2 or nintendo, if they're any good (and if xbox will finally be smaller than VCR).

I don't care when the PS3 is released, for the simple fact that PS2 and college will keep me occupied until the release. When it is released, I won't buy it straight away, as the earlyest models are most likely to fail quickly.

But the thing is, I've just realised something, GTA San Andreas will be released in October, and the official GTA4 will be released on PS3. What will they do in the gap time?

The answer is Manhunt 2.
#15.1 reddline76 on 11 Mar 2004 - 21:57
When did anyone say that GTA4 was going to be released on PS3 as an exclusive? The exclusivity agreement is up this year with the release of San Andreas so I'm pretty sure Microsoft will make sure the next installment in the GTA series will be released simultaneously or maybe even a few months before PS3 since thats what they've been doing with Ubisoft games like Splinter Cell.
