- Is the special edition coming out in the UK? I've ordered the DVD edition from Play.com for £17.99 but can't see the SE anywhere
-
#1.1 Posted by Zetter on 16 Mar 2004 - 22:05
- I've gone with play too,
this uk site has the SE but it's more than double the play price for normal http://www.gsserver.co.uk/site/shop/products/3546430112021/%5DBuy%20it%20here! -

- That's not the SE version. That's the regular version, but instead of coming on 6xCD it's coming on 2xDVD. No headset, no Unreal Edit DVD, no tin box, etc.

-
#2.1 Posted by pb186 on 16 Mar 2004 - 22:06

- From the unreal site:
"Unreal Tournament 2004 DVD Special Edition is a double-DVD set – disk one includes all of the game content while disk two includes hours of Video Training Modules (VTMs) from 3D Buzz that teach fans and amateur mod makers how to use the Unreal Editor to create custom game content. Unreal Tournament 2004 DVD Special Edition comes in a limited edition metal box and contains a Logitech Internet Chat Headset for use with the game’s exclusive voice-over-IP (voice chat) technology. "

- YAY!! I preordered my DVD Special Edition yesterday from BestBuy.com for $29.99!!
-
#4.2 Posted by alister on 17 Mar 2004 - 19:37
- I am going to get a price match at Circuit City. If they don't match it then I will go to Best Buy and pick it up. I was not going to buy it right away but at that price/with the headset, it is to hard to pass up.

- I really really want this game but I need a new computer first...
-
#15.1 Posted by IGx89 on 17 Mar 2004 - 03:17
- That's pretty sad; UT2K4 is one of the few new games that actually runs decently on older computers
. It even has a software renderer, though I have no idea why it would need one. -
#15.2 Posted by divertom15 on 17 Mar 2004 - 04:10
- It also has a dx9 renderer but i have no idea why an nvidia partner would make one
the software renderer is for botmatch bentchmarks it uses the cpu in that benchmark and not the gpu ala software mode
-
#15.3 Posted by threetonesun on 17 Mar 2004 - 19:28
- Yeah, if you don't mind it looking like the first Unreal Tournament
-
#15.4 Posted by aalaap on 17 Mar 2004 - 19:59
- i love the first UT .. in fact I found 2k3 too colorful and .. weird in a way .. i still enjoy old UT CTFs .. GODLIKE !!!
-
#15.5 Posted by Caelamia on 17 Mar 2004 - 21:42
- The software renderer is also used so you can play the game on laptops etc. without the latest 3D GPUs, so they say. Heh, not that I need software rendering. My old PC will last me through with this game till I get the money saved up for my new one.

- i'm from the UK and ordered my DVD version from play.com
i'm just hoping that their dvd version is infact the "SE" and not just a standard dvd version.
suppose it doesnt really matter, the demo ROX so any version of the game will be ok for me

#20 Posted by Tikimotel on 17 Mar 2004 - 11:51
- Metal boxed, limited DVD special edition... so "worldwide" seems more like "US-wide"...
24th of March release date Europe (for netherlands at least...other countries I don´t know)

- What in the hell would cause a game to be packed onto 6 CDs? Not even Doom 3 is going to have 6 CDs.

- Imagine you're tracking down the dude with the lead and you got one shot at him and you grab your gun and click the button and SSSSILENCE with a message box .. "Please insert CD4 to continue" .....
6xCD ?? I'm sure those few people in Vietnam or Mongolia who don't have DVD-ROMs yet will be thrilled.
No offence. Just think maybe its time these guys really made the move to DVD. Or maybe they should still give out floppies too. -
#24.1 Posted by daveoc64 on 17 Mar 2004 - 20:25
- I know how cheap DVD-ROM drives are nowadays, but there is not any point in me buying one until I need it. I have a DVD player for watching movies, I haven't come across any software/game that only came on DVDs and I would rather have 52x CD than a slower DVD drive.
Another thing to consider is that some less technically minded people might not want a DVD drive because they are afraid of installing it wrong. -

They don't have to do it theirselves.
BTW, There is no CD version of Farcry yet.-

See I live in BG and here no one have DVD-ROM for software, why? Because everything is downloaded from the Internet and burned to CD-Rs, who will need DVD when everything is on CDs!!!??? And for me is not problem to install the 6 CDs since I got them for free. Got the point?

- Well, I picked mine up at Best Buy. Only the initial shipment will have the DVD Special Edition and if you werent one of the lucket 10 people to get it (each store got 10 copies) then you are SOL.
Also, if you goto the gaming section and get a BestBuy giftcard, there is a coupon on the back for $5 off a game $20 and up. I threw $25 on the card, used the coupon to discount the game to $25 and used the Giftcard to pay for it. $25 out the door for the special edition! w00p!
Goodluck to all trying to find the special edition in-store! I had to goto 3 BestBuy's in my area to find some in stock

- I went to Best Buy yesterday and they had no SE's on the shelf just the standard. I asked the salesperson about it and he pointed out the standard. I asked him if the had gotten any SE's in and he had a confused look. I showed him the ad and told him that I wanted the DVD SE version because I did not want to have to keep up with 6 CDs
He looked it up in the computer and then said he would check in the back. When he came back, he had a SE verison in his hands

- I was at the Best Buy in Altimonte Springs, FL today. I waited outside for the doors to open. At 10, an employee opened the doors and I was the first inside. I walked right to the games section, and couldn't find the game on the shelves. Another customer looked at me, and asked if I was looking for the same thing. I instantly knew what he was talking about.
A store rep came over, and showed us the game on the shelves. There were a bunch of Normal CD-ROM versions. . and 1 DVD Special Edition version. The other person casually picked up the game, held it in his hands, and looked at the box. He then asked if there were any other copies around, as we both wanted that version. This other person and I casually joked back and forth while the rep checked the inventory database.
The store rep checked the inventory, and although two copies were listed in the computer, the only one he could find was the one on the shelves. He then went on to mention that they didn't wait until the store release date of March 18th to start selling the game. Apparently this store sold the damn things fresh off the truck! The store rep told me that there were only three left when he started his night shift the previous night.
Well, this other guy asked if the store rep could check the inventory of other stores, and the rep led him over to a terminal not far away. Turns out, a store in Ocoee still had all 10 copies. This other guy was nice enough to hand me the only SE copy left, and he drove to the other store.
Some people in this world are just plain nice. It amazes me sometimes how kind people can be, when compared to other assholes in the world. .
