Square Enix teases gamers with a taste of its upcoming Game Boy Advance port double-header.
TOKYO--Square Enix has opened the official site for its upcoming Game Boy Advance port of Final Fantasy I & II. At the current time, none of the menu options are selectable for viewing save a brief official announcement on the title.

Final Fantasy I and II were originally released in 1987 and 1988 on the Famicom (called the NES in the US). This will be the second time that the two titles will be compiled into a single cartridge; Square also did it back on the Famicom in 1994. The new GBA version will come with upgraded graphics and the ability to save anywhere in the game. Other changes that are known is that magic can now be cast by consuming magic points instead of using limited magic stocks.

Both games also come with new additions that weren't present in their original Famicom releases. Final Fantasy I will have a new dungeon called the "Soul of Chaos", where you uncover new items such as the Ultima Weapon, and fight against historical bosses in the Final Fantasy series, like the ghost train from FF VI. Final Fantasy II will have an extra story line named the "Soul of Rebirth", where you get to play as four of the NPC scenario characters (Ming-Wu, Scott, Joseph, Richard) who die in the game's main story.

P.s. Downtime was apparently due to a network issue at our Hosts; appologies :)

Its nice to finally get a new Final Fantasy game for the Gameboy, but wouldn't it be better to have something more original and "NEW" for a change than old hand me downs

No wonder Nintendo's sales are stalling if all they are doing is releasing Remake after Remake, getting a little bit to much like Hollywood here

Japan -> USA

FF 1 -> FF 1
FF 2 -> Never Released
FF 3,4 -> One was FF 2, One was never released (forget which was which)
FF 5 -> Never Released
FF 6 -> FF 3

From FF7 on, releases have been of the same name in both Japan and the US. This is of course only for the NES and SNES.

actually it goes like this...

Console | Names when released

Japan -> USA

Nes |FF 1 -> FF 1
Nes |FF 2 -> Never Released
Nes |FF 3 -> Never Released
Snes |FF 4 -> FF 2
Snes |FF 5 -> Never Released
Snes |FF 6 -> FF 3

and like jack31081 said ff7 on has been released here.

Let's not forget this little confusion:
(again, Japan -> USA)

Seiken Densetsu -> Final Fantasy Mystic Quest
Seiken Densetsu 2 -> Secret of Mana
Seiken Densetsu 3 -> not released

There was also a Final Fantasy game on Gameboy in the US which was NOT a Final Fantasy game in Japan. Can't remember the exact name though.

*drools* This is awesome! The PSX port was just starting to get boring! This should spice things up!

This is how Final Fantasy was released on PSX in North America:

FFI, FFII > Final Fantasy Origins
FFIV, Chrono Trigger > Final Fantasy Chronicles
FFV, FFVI > Final Fantasy Antholology

When the hell will FFIII be released for Playstation? I'm sure it was in Japan!

Sometimes I wished I lived in Japan if not just for video games, anime, cute Japanese girls, and to see monkeys in hot springs.
